a common theme on dive sites this week in the upper keys; vibrant blue, clear water and minimal currents. so we headed out to dive the BIBB(it's been about a year) this morning, however, both mooring buoys were occupied, so we continued on to it's sister ship the USCG DUANE(all 3 buoys available). bright sunshine, air 80F, seas 2-3FT, N/NE winds freshening from 8 to 14KTS, a bit bouncy but comfortable as the boat layed into the wind. fabulous conditions beneath the seas! 1st dive: buoy D2, blue water, viz 70 FT, ZERO current(didn't even use the mooring lines on either dive for descent or ascent/safety stop!), water temp 77F @ 65-110FT. 2nd dive: moved to buoy D3, blue viz 70 FT, once again no current, 77F @ 60-100FT. absolutely fantastic conditions underwater, as if you were diving an inland lake and no other divers in sight! large bull shark, fleeting school of wahoo(12+) on our safety stop, huge permit, turtle, numerous large cudas and snappers/groupers. clean water all the way in to the shoreline! overall the diving this winter has been terrific,,,,,,,,,, pics provided by TIMG,,,,,,,
