Hello, I'm a fairly novice diver but I'm looking to start doing a lot more diving. I am looking into getting some of my own equipment, but I'm a little stumped as to what regulator would be best for me and will also allow me to grow into it. I Go to school down in Florida and will be doing a good deal of diving down there, but my family lives in Chicago and I'd like to dive around that area as well. I was looking at the AL Legend (possibly the LX). Are there any other regs that might be better suited for me or does this seem like a decent choice? I just don't want to end up buying something more expensive than I need. Yet I still want it to last me a while and allow me to grow into it as a diver. Thanks in advance for any advice anyone may have.

You could get the titan rather than the legend, save some money, and get a very similar reg. There are different models of the titan; one has a balanced 2nd, one has a cold water kit, which would be very helpful if you're diving in sub40F water. Got a dry suit? If not, I don't think you'll be spending much in time in water that cold. (like about 30 seconds!)

ok great thanks, I've read through what people said, I'm still a little stuck on what I should get, but at least now I have more knowledge on what to look for and things like that. Thank you Couv for the link

Hello Gim,

It all depends on how much diving you will be doing and what limits you plan on holding. Down to 60 feet most modern regulators will do fine. I bought a closeout USD reg, a big plastic monster attached to a calypso, that I use for single valve diving. 79 bux at sports chalet. It does what I need and I have a set I can loan.

Also, the gear you will need for the keys versus cold water diving is substantially different.

Leisure pro has some inexpensive regs, and as long as you buy from a AL USD Scubapro level mfg there will always be parts. Scuba toys has some interesting offers as well. and a 10% discount for mentioning the board.
