When I checked the other day, there's only one or two Catalina Express trips each day going and coming as of now, and only from Long Beach, so it makes for a long day. You should probably check if any restaurants are open

Some of the dive boats are running but not all. Hopefully things will be back to whatever the new normal is come October, but the way this year is going so far, who knows

If you're taking dive gear to Hawaii in October, you're going to need a bit more exposure protection for So Cal diving, especially if you go to Casino Point and/or out on a dive boat for 2 or 3 dives. September / October is the warmest water of the year, so the kelp probably won't be as lush as now

Lots of different places to do a shore dive in kelp forests. Unfortunately, you can't order up sea lion encounters, although there are a couple of spots you're more likely to see them

So how does the Catalina area compare to La Jolla? Kind of have it narrowed down to those two spots...

No contest. Beach dives in southern California are OK at best. Great if you live there though. The dive park in Catalina beats LaJolla by miles if you have time to go.
