I understand Chinese. The divers getting back on the boat saying they had been lost since "yesterday"

I fit my ACR PLB400, AF Signal Mirror, Marine Whistle and 15ft of paracord into a DryFob XL. There's also room for a credit card and some cash. Then that fits nicely into one of the rear trim pockets of either my Ranger or Stiletto BC... and yes it zips fully closed. Another option for the storing the xl dry fob is the HOG large utility pocket that'll attach to any 2in webbing or tank cam strap. Fits like it was made for it.

Right. Also references to seeing airplanes (“fei ji”) so it does seem legit from that standpoint. I was just surprised at the condition of the divers and the fact they’re getting back aboard with tanks on after so long in the water. Also, there are supposed to be eight right, though I only count six in the video.

All the news reports suggest 24-27 hours adrift (including interview with USCG) so more support for the story.

These guys were super lucky.

Hi,

I've never heard of this container before, it seems good value compared to other canisters out there. I must google this product.

You're right. I remember that incident. A group of Japanese divers who got blown off Peleliu when the dive boat driver (who claimed he couldn't get the motor started but I suspect just fell asleep) couldn't manage the pick up and didn't send a distress call for hours. One of the Japanese women wrote notes of the ordeal as long as she lasted-a few days. I've carried a PLB since.
Two cases and all involved Japanese divers

"three (Japanese divers in 1994) were never found"!

From what I could find(photo etc) not all of the 9 divers were equipped with smb!!!
Send the smb as early as possible ie. even under water.
The boatman should know the dive time in places like Peleliu and will start looking for the sight of smb.

More than two. @clownfishsydney referred to the 1994 incident (https://www.undercurrent.org/UCnow/issues/y1994/ID0494/PalauTragedy0494i.pdf) which was all the more horrific because of the inexplicable circumstances involving the response and the notes one of the divers kept before she died. There was another in 2006 and again in 2020 involving drifting Japanese divers, fortunately with better outcomes. Another Japanese died January 2024, albeit not at Peleliu. Then there have been recent incidents (2020, ealier in 2024) involving Chinese divers, again, not at Peleliu.

Back to Peleliu, there was Michael Norwood in 2003 on the USS Perry off Anguar and an American woman who drowned off Peleliu in 2003.

These are the ones I could find articles on, but I have heard of others at Peleliu. Suffice it to say it's not a place to be taken lightly or to dive with a second rate outfit. Be prepared. The ocean doesn't care.
