We just did the the U-boat today. The conditions unfortunately weren't that good on the wreck. There was a pretty good phytoplankton bloom out there so the water was really green and the vis was only about 5 feet. There was a mild current at the bottom as well. We ended up on the bow mooring. We still had a decent dive though, and my buddies Matt and Eduardo were finally able to break their U-boat curse and get down to the wreck (I had already done it, but they had both tried and failed several times)! There were also a lot of pilotfish hanging around the mooring line at the safety stop.

well sounds like you had a better day diving than i did at work.
the last few times ive been out there there where alot of pilot fosh hanging around
is my chain still up on the bow? :)

Yeah, any day diving is better than a day at work! I actually took the whole week off! I had some vacation time I needed to burn before I lost it at the end of the month. :D

So you are the one that put that bow mooring on there?

i didnt put the bow moring thats there on, but in the area where the current moring is is a chain, with shackle and small cut piece of line attached to some kinda deck fitting. yeah thats mine

That is what that whole dark layer at at 50' was right? It was actually so dense that I think it was actually being picked up on my depthfinder!

The dive was OK. I really wish the vis was better and that I didn't lose my shears but what can you do.... go back next summer I guess. Anyway, after 7 attempts I finally broke the curse :) I'm anxious to see what kind of video Ed captured...

Probably. When we were there it wasn't confined to a layer like that, it was more spread through the water column. However, there was a thermocline at around that depth when we were there and it is very common for there to be a concentration of phytoplankton right along that boundary.

That is what it looked like. It looks like we are in for a blowout here in RI for this weekend so I will be doing some boat maintenance on Saturday and heading up to Boston with a friend's boat to dive the Romance.
