I did break a bone while diving - or more specifically - while starting a dive. Will tell you about it some time.

Still, I agree, that diving done properly is much safer than a lot of other activities.

What is going on here? Did no one read that bani adventure thread where Roman died and 9 other people suffered horribly because of the dive boat owners neglect? My concerns are valid. That waiver I'm going to sign would release Robert from that same level of neglect if it were to happen here in the US of A. That should bother everyone who signs it. If he didn't have a solid local reputation I wouldn't sign it. Now I'm being told to take up golf over my concerns ... ??? I'm being flamed over real issues???

You guys don't want me around over my expressed concerns about the waiver then no problem. Let me know here, scratch me off the trip ... and I'll go my marry way.

BTW ... golf sux imho. It's too boring.

First, the boat and owners of the misadventure you mention are being held accountable. I am not a lawyer, but know that there is a difference between simple and gross negligence and the waiver protect the dive op from simple negligence. Also, it is very little different than the waiver you signed when you took your OW class (assuming you took it from a PADI instructor). He was released from the same things you are now obsessing over.

Dive or not - that is your call. I choose to dive.

I am not a lawyer, but know that there is a difference between simple and gross negligence and the waiver protect the dive op from simple negligence. I respect your opinion. But I think that RECREATIONAL Scuba diving with proper training is a SAFE sport and is a lot less dangerous within NDL than many other sports, including football. I don't break bones when I dive. It's not a contact sport. I find it very relaxing and beneficial to my entire body. Running is a sport that seems to hurt my feet, ankles, shins, back. So I like to dive.

If you have a Solo certification with the necessary planning and redundancy (like redundant air source) a buddy is also not necessary to diving.

I only trust myself, my self sufficiency, my skills and my ability to resolve problems on land, underwater and on the surface. I can dive with anyone because I don't rely on anyone underwater except myself. This is how I learned to improve my diving abilities early on.

Guess I was just trained that way. I did a lot of practicing and don't push any limits diving. I normally use a very conservative dive profile most of the time.

That's just me. So however you enjoy the sport is of course up to you.


Safe and FUN diving, release or no release

I understand what you are saying , I am speaking from a recreational standpoint, the sport may be safer then some but that does not mean there are no risks. Also you bring up solo diving, and one day Ill be able to advertise I am such but for now with my low numbers I am not without a buddy. Therefore in my opinion , and well I was kinda taught that it is my job to look after myself and my buddy, and its my buddy's job as well. Since the PADI class waiver looks like the boats there is no reason not to sign it unless someones looking for a loophole. Every dive poses a risk depending on the persons health , gear, and thier own abilities. I learn to improve my diving by diving often, in various places and with various people, that way I see, and do things the continue to open my eyes to other options.

Thats different then coming on scuba board and whining about one sentence in a waiver. He could have called or emailed Robert directly if he had a issue with it. I think its in poor taste to do it on an open forum. Hell I didnt even read the waiver, I said "Hey Robert, this says that if I die, you, the boat and anyone touching the boat today or for the next 10 years is not resonsible no matter what right?" and he said "pretty much" so I turned back around and initial and sign just like every other sport waiver I have had to sign.

BTW I am taking a salt water dive soonish, Leias making me, I might ground her that weekend so we sadly cant make it though

I think you and Leia need several swampers to accompany you on this supposed salt water adventure, for proof of your entry to the blue and as dive trip leader.

Do me a favor. Stop saying rude stuff about me. I've never said a bad word about you, nor provoked you in any way. I'm not whining about anything. I asked a valid question in a polite way, just not the way you would have. That doesn't give you the right to be rude to me.
