Hi everyone,

I'm a new member newly certified. dive #7 was an evening dive at pebble. I dove with the undersea divers dive society. Conditions were OK. 2 foot swells. High tide. Viz was about 10' at depth (30fsw) about three feet at the surface. I did not see much in terms of marine life. A few flounders and that's about it. I don't have a flashlight, so the colors were absent. Everything was all shades of gray. I found this dive more challenging than my past morning dives at old garden and back beach. I would like to go back during the day. The reef out there looks like it would be interesting with better viz.

On a side note, there were about 6 people fishing from the beach who complianed that we were scaring the fish away and did not like that we entered the water close to their lines. The DM and the people fishing had a few words I guess.

One last side note, how do you change the number of dives listed on your profile? I can't find it anywhere.

Happy to be part of the group, and really excited to be diving!

Welcome to SB & NELDs!!:D

A night dive without a light?? Well, I would say that would be a bit challenging. Did you at least have some type of marker so others could see you?

I dove Pebble for the first time last week. It is a pretty descent dive, considering the ease of parking and entry/exit. If you made it out to the rocks (@150yards out) I would imagine the bugs would be out all over the place. I watched one eating a crab in daylight last week. That was a first. Pretty interesting watching the bug pick the meat right out of the top of the crab. Funny what you see when you're not actually hunting them.

Oh, and the number of logged dives and several other things are 'temporarily' broken, so you can't update your #dives. Photo gallery is still down too. :(

Welcome to the board, it sounds like you got some good experience out of the dive if nothing else.

From the sound of it though, I agree with the fishermen... they were right to complain. Why did you enter where you did?

It wasn't a night dive per se. We hit the water around 7pm, so I would say twilight. Dive two that was a night dive and people were using glow sticks and lights. Being a newbie, I chose to pass. I was a good experience though.

It was a group dive with about 10 divers. The DMs decided where we entered. The fishermen were surf casting and were in four groups about 50 feet apart. Towards the left side of the beach there was no one. I'm not sure why we entered where we did. I think the DM was looking at the drift and trying not to get us caught in the line. Being a newbie I didn't think to challenge the DM. Next time, I will though. If it was me and a buddy, I would have found an empty section of the beach to enter.
