My turn to ask a weighting question about wetsuits. There are plent of charts that will help you estimate weight requirements for a "6mil" wetsuit. I'm guessing that this is for a 6mil jumpsuit. If you have a 6mil Farmer John then you really have 12mil on your core. Any guidelines for how this affects boyancy?

Extra credit: Would a 7mil neoprene drysuit have more boyancy than a 7mil wetsuit? My guess is yes do to air trapping and extra material.

I'm going to check my boyancy in the pool tonight but I need to buy more weight and I was hoping for some good guesses about how much I'll need.

I know that it takes 27# to sink me a 7mil drysuit in fresh water and it takes 6# to sink me in a 3mil jumpsuit in fresh water. It better not take 47# to sink me in the 6mil farmer john!

It takes 6lbs to sink me in a 3mm long sleve shorty. when i went to a 6.5mm farmer john with a hood it only took 16lbs to sink me. both of these are in freshwater and both times using AL 80's.

I don't think it will take you 47lbs. you might be around where i was....15-20lbs

Yeah, 47# may be just a bit high. I have a 7mil farmer john, and at 225 lbs I'm not exactly small, and I wear 20-25# to get down in freshwater. I use 12# to get down with my 3/2 mil, also in fresh.

I jumped in the pool last night to check the weighting on the 6mil suit.

Booties, 6mil overalls, 6mil jacket, 3mil hood, 3mil gloves = 22# to get
netural at the surface.

+6 for the AL80 + 10% for saltwater = 31# total.

Naked I'm just slightly negative with a full breath of air.
