I like 5' hose much better than 7' myself. I have 5' on my single setup as I much prefer the routing.

I had to get a 7' for some courses I did and kept it on my doubles setup as I am occassionally in confined areas where air sharing would need to be done single file. Otherwise I'd use a 5' on my twins as well.

I reckon try them both out and see what you like best. I do not think much of the argument that it is better to be consisent... I find it very easy to switch between setups so do not think it matters.

Oh, thank for bringing this up. I have some other issue with the backup. When I bought my reg, I didn't foresee myself doiong UTD/DIR setup. I bought Hollis DC2 with 212 2nd stage with swivel, and I thought it was a cool feature.

Only now I realize the fitting on the 212 is NOT standard, so I cannot simplely swap the swivel hose to long hose. I was thinking for the time being, I will use long hose on my current octo, which is an Oceanic Neo. And 212 will be come my backup on neckless. It will be a bit long, but this should be OK for now, right?

Hmmm... If you want me to take look at the 212, glad to do so. Happy to meet with you in person at Diver Dan's or Any Water Sports.

With regards to the backup necklace, you want the correct length. Too long, beyond not being compact, can interfere and get in the way.

Why create a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Just use a 5' hose with singles

I'm not DIR and we're not in the DIR forum, but since the OP asked about DIR:

Your knife should be accesable by both hands, which means it should be on the front of your harness not the side

Your pocket should be glued to your wetsuit, not mounted on your harness

Why modify your equipment just so you can use a 7' hose when you don't need it?

If you find a benefit to the 7' hose with singles, great

Halcyon STATES on their website that the harness pocket "can be used to secure a diver's long hose." I know a lot of divers who use one when not diving with a can light...doesn't seem to be a problem at all.

Thanks alot for help. I will bring my reg to Diver Dans to show you, I love to hear your opinion on my options.

I didn't say it was a problem, I said it wasn't DIR

I'm sorry, but it IS DIR to use a pocket or a knife on the right hip to secure the long hose, if you are not using a canister light.

If I am not mistaken, DIR calls for the knife to located in the center, not on your hip. Could be mistaken as I do not dive DIR, but have read on the matter.

As long as were aren't in the DIR forum  . . .

Is there a difference in deploying a Miflex 7' hose and a 'regular' 7' hose? By difference, is it easier or harder to pull out the stiffer rubber hose than the Miflex? Does the flexibility of the Miflex ever cause problems?
