Alright all you math people out there. I am planning on doubling up my PST E-8 119's soon, and of course since I am a Halcyon Nazi, I won't try anything else...

My question is:

Is 55 lbs of lift enough for double 119's and all the extras (regs, bands, etc) or if I get that set up will I jump into the lake, and never be heard from again?

Will a 55 lbs wing carry 130's? If it carrys that I'm golden.

Here is the specs for 119's
Weight: 39.3
Buoyancy Empty Full
-0.5 -9.5

I would say YES but, I don't know for sure, and seeing how I like hanging around here, I want to be sure.

Just put my Pioneer up on Ebay - Working on doubling them right now.
I'm buying the stuff now though, bands and manifold next step -

I should just buy some used ones.

No, but I am going to, I am going to take GUE DIR-F with Derek at Dutch sounds like July,

Mods - Sorry if I got off track with my thread, If you see fit would you please move this to general equipment - because this is my first set of Doubles and I have a feeling I am going to be all over the place with questions.

Thanks, LIT

Yes, 55lbs is plenty. You really only need 20-36 lbs (BG, stages, deco) of lift if you're rig is balanced. You'll find that with EMPTY BG and full cold water double's DIR rig (6 cf Argon, Helios 9), you'll have about 12-13 lbs on you in Sea Water. Most people need at least 14-16 lbs if you're wearing a drysuit. Although I don't use any additional weight in my 119 and 130 sets, most folks jam a few pounds between the tanks behind the wing or just use a V-weight. 100's are completely a different story.

Hope that helps, and if you haven't taken fundies, highly recommend it as this stuff is thoroughly reviewed and you'll leave the course with a dialed in "custom-fitted" balanced rig.

Sincerely,
Harry

Giving up the Pioneer? What about warm water single tank diving? I forgot to mention that the weight was with an AL backplate. The 6 lbs SS one just doesn't trim out with doubles, YMMV.

Harry

Warm Water ? I dive Lake Erie there is no warm water :D I'm planning on getting a STA to dive singles. I am planning on getting the SS backplate on the Explorer

I just got offered a set of Fabers 95's already doubled up with bands and 02 cleaned with manifold for $600 from a SB member, so I might just go that route instead of buying a manifold and bands and everything else.

I gave up the Pioneer to help take the edge off the cost. It was a choice of diving doubles or staying with singles

I use a Apeks Atx 200, what to get for a second? Remember I'm poor :D

I use a Dive Rite 55 lb. wing with a SS backplate and PST HP 120's. In addition I have two 80 Aluminum one slung under each arm with the extra regs as well. I have no problem using the 55 lb and never even come close to filling it completely on the surface.

If you're diving dry then you have a backup if you had a total BCD failure. If you're wet are you going to be able to swim your rig to the surface?

I am diving dry, so I do have the back-up

Nah, but then again lift bags would definitely come in handy there.. ;)
