is it common? someone is selling them in the local classifieds was wondering why anyone would want to pack around 50 cu ft doubles when you can buy a 100 cu ft single. also will the valves and bands fit on any tank?

those are old tanks (20-25 years most likely), they used to be "standard" a while back. if for nothing else, get them for the nostalgia and to satisfy the collector in you

Man, I would love a set of double LP46's (with two posts). They would be great for my usual lake dives and I wouldn't have to reconfigure my regs. Right now, I just dive my heavier-than-hell 104's all the time.

Back in the day I had a couple sets of steels 50's (with the 10% overfill, essentially 45's without it.)

They offerred wonderful balance and were in my opinion much more stable than a 100 cu ft AL tank.

Aluminum 50's if anything would be even more stable.
