You can buy a new 5 oceans now for under $200 so what is a compelling reason to buy a cressi if the main reason is winter dive trips to warm water and maybe some local 7mm wetsuit diving?

Which one fits your body shape the best and which one has the features you use?

The 5 Oceans is discontinued as well, and I've only seen the small/ x small for that price, where the larger sizes are still 400-500. It's a great deal if it fits you and meets your needs.

I found brand new ones in the large size for $213 so luckily still very inexpensive, relatively speaking. Haven't seen one in person though so am really curious how well it shrinks for travel, so to speak. How do they hold up over regular use and what did they replace it with?

Sorry, I saw that as well. I haven't had the opportunity to dive it, so I can't comment on how it works (though I'm considering one for travel). It is a little heavier (2 lbs or so) than some of the cressi and oceanic travel BCDs.

I believe the replacement BCD is the Jetpack, which is a BCD and travel gear bag together. No idea how well that works.

I still wrestle with the fact that something must be fatally flawed with the 5 Oceans in order for this BC to have been so highly praised in reviews and win lofty sounding awards like 'BC of the year" in 2009 yet being discontinued so soon. To me that is like going from hero to zero overnight. Something doesn't add up. I found no recall notices so not sure what to make of it. Did you end up getting one?
