Hello. I am here in Texas on orders, after several months of being at Wichita Falls I am looking to get wet over the 4th of July Weekend. The Air Force is kind enough to give us a four day weekend.

Are there any charters or groups going out? I'm new to the area so I don't know anything about Texas Diving.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

I've been diving on and off for 5 years, open water, Hawaii, Puget Sound and Monterey Bay.

Robert Weiss runs a great Dive boat operation to a lot of remote but cool sites around Lake Travis outside of Austin.

Welcome to Lake Travis Scuba

Give him a call to get booked early on one of the weekend charters always a lot of fun and you find the best viz in the lake with Robert.

Not to leave out the treasure hunting from the party barges and sunken boats, wall dives and other available objects in recreational depth limits.

Have fun

Lake Travis Scuba is good advise and will be a goodtime for sure, otherwise Athens Scuba Park or Clear Springs Scuba Park are close I don't know about Possum Kingdom Lake which is the closest to you.

Are you still in Wichita Falls? What part of Texas would you like to dive? N/NE Texas hot spots (Best reported vis in bold are Clear Springs (Terrell- 60' max), Athens Scuba Park (Athens- 30 ft? maybe 40?), Possum Kingdom (near Ft. Worth- I think it's deep?), Tyler State Park (Tyler- shallow, maybe 25' max), Lake Broken Bow just across the TX/OK border= it's deeper than you want to go. Go to Hill Country, you have the Comal River (New Braunfels- 15 ft max), Lake Travis (Austin- very deep), Canyon Lake (Austin- know little about it, good reported vis at this time, sounds deep?) and Amistadt. (sp?) (again, good reported vis at this time) So south and you have Twin Lakes (Houston- fairly shallow? 40' or so?), Blue Lagoon (Huntsville- shallow- 20-30 ft), Mammoth Lake (south of Houston- I think 60'-80'.) Someone already mentioned the Texas Flower Gardens, which should be an awesome trip. Me, cursed with sea-sickness- so I'm fearful of being stuck on a boat for 3-4 days and wishing I were home, so I've never had the nerve to try it. But, it's rig and reef diving right off the Texas coast, and many people have had wonderful trips out. Then in far West TX is Balmorreah State Park (shallow) (sp? again) and some people go to New Mexico to "Blue Hole".

Thank you so much for your service to our country- I hope this is helpful.

Hey, Pardna...I'm 22 miles from you, bearing 180 (Archer City). I don't know about the 4th of July weekend, but I'm usually reasonably available to dive pretty much all summer. In addition to the places Foo mentioned, one of the best "quick" places to get wet is less than an hour away at Lake Elmer Thomas, next to Fort Sill. (True, it's not a Texan spot, but it's close!) I'll check my calendar if you want to make some close dives, or we'll schedule something farther out.

Do you have your own equipment, or will you be renting? If the latter is the case and you want to dive nearby, I know where you can rent gear locally (WF).

I'm up for anything. Just let me know what you have in mind.

Bill
