Hi, and welcome to the boards!!

Wish I was going to Key Largo!!

Good luck (though you really don't need it).

Have a great time (I'm sure you will).

Come back and tell us all about it (Please). :D

Congratulations and good luck. I've been where you are I would say that even though there are some skills that you have to demonstrate you will still have fun doing them.

I did my OW re-cert. 3years ago and it was in a quarry pit. Murky water at the great temp of 50 degrees farenheit. I'm sure the conditions in Key Largo will be much better.
I envy you already. ENJOY:D

Thanks for all the words of encouragement!! Key Largo was awesome. Even though I only got to do reef dives on the 1st day because of rough seas. In fact, the instructor said had he not been confident that I could handle it, he would not have taken me out the first day either. I handled it well - was actually grateful for the "trial by fire" - now I know what to expect - even if I did "decorate" the beautiful water a little with my lunch : ) But I learned from that if you just go on and feed the fish you feel a lot less green around the gills.

And - I was particularly proud of my entry during the 2nd dive. I perfectly executed the back roll with contacts in and mask still around neck manuever : ) Came up laughing through my reg. Then discovered what a challenge it is to put your mask on in 5'-6' seas!

The second day was spent doing skills in a lagoon (located in the same lagoon as Jules Undersea Lodge in Key Largo) - not much to see, but strangely there were lots of parrotfish. There I discovered that my fins (Atomic splitfins) are *really* positively buoyant as I kept flipping backwards trying to hover from my fins popping up and the tank dragging me back. Gonna invest in some ankle weights I think!

Fortunately I was really good at buoyancy control, so the instructor let me wriggle out of that skill and I did fine on the fin pivot.

So. I am really ready to jump back in. Hoping to head back to Key Largo in June with my LDS.

I'm hooked!

:bounce: :bounce:

Congratulations! Welcome to the scuba world... I will be doing my OW dives May 18th and 19th, but the conditions won't be as nice. Water will probably be in the upper 40's but it will still be fun!

Glad you passed and I hope you stick with it, sounds like you will!

Welcome to our world. Keep us posted as your diving progresses.

Congrats!

pretty soon you'll wish you had gills like the rest of us wish!

=)

Ha! Well, apparently I thought I already had gills at one point. During the buddy breathing skill I successfully gave my instructor my reg, and then forgot to put my alternate air source in my mouth! (It wasn't an octopus - it was attached to the BC inflator hose which was a little weird to me!)

I'm sure I would have figured it out eventually - but he thought I was cracked in the head - nitrogen narcosis at 20 feet! We had a good laugh about it back on the surface. I claimed I was distracted by a leaky mask, not enough weight, and overly bouyant fins. But the truth is that sometimes I think I'm a mermaid. :flips:
