OK,

So the wife and I have recently gotten back from a trip to Hawaii and the dive gods are pounding their drums insisting that we return to the depths soon.

Anyone have any suggestions on destinations for a four day weekend?

What's the best value for destinations? We live in San Francisco. Warm water is preferred. Any suggestions?????

thanks!

Try Cozumel or Belize, you can fly to both destinations on Continental through Houston.

In Cozumel, you can get off the plane and into town and start diving right away. I believe the dive spots in Belize require an extra flight or boat trip.

Enjoy your trip!

I've been to Coz and can't wait to get back. Belize has always interested me. Thanks for the suggestions.

Coz is great, but you will loose a day flying there and returning home, so only leaves 2 days for diving. The flight out of Houston leaveas around 1:30pm, so you have to leavv very early in the moring to make it. When we left LA our flight was at 7:00 am to make it or we would have to spend the night in Houston. Another option is to fly to Cancun and take the bus and ferry over. You may want to consider La Paz, when the water warms up. Shorter flight and the same time zone. Good luck.

I've heard decent reports from Loreto, on the Baja peninsula, but it's still one day there and one day back travel time, so might as well go to Coz. I've done that twice (well, 2nd time is coming up) from SF as 5 day trips for 3 days of diving. That's a decent trip.

It's not too convenient flying directly to Coz. It involves leaving Thursday evening to get there Friday. More flights go to Cancun; from there, take a bus and then ferry to Coz. It's still a whole day's travel -- very early flight gets you to Coz at dinner time, but it doesn't involve sleeping on the plane.

Have you considered Catalina? Not really warm, but close by . . . It is okay to drive after diving without a 24 hour wait, as long as you don't go too high.

Just something to consider.

Thanks Wristshot!

I just don't know much about it. I'm quite used to Monterey diving although I still dive wet, which I am hoping to change this year. What can you tell me about Catalina that might entice me down there? I hear it's generally a nice place to visit....

Any info is appreciated.

thanks again.

You can dive Catalina or the other Channel Islands. The water is getting better without all rain. I went out last week and the water temp was 58 degrees. I would highly recommend it, but the water clarity wasn't as good as usual with all the rain. Good luck. I just back from Cozumel 2 weeks ago and just booked a week in Roatan for mid April. I still have the diving bug.

58 degrees sounds pretty nice. I take it that all of these would be boat dives correct? I'll definately take this into consideration. Have fun in Roatan!

BTW - the only medicine that provides relief from the diving bug is more diving......doctor's orders.

It's both, you'll need a boat/ride to Bird Rock but Casino Point and south is shore accessible, there's steps there and some shore entry points also. I haven't been there in a while so I can't say what the current conditions are like. PM drbill on this forum, he lives there and dives all the time.

Here's a link, even though it's commercial, there's a lot of good info/maps.
