Well .for those windy days or for training, the ponds are open.

I dove Hathaway (on the cape) today: av. temp 42deg, 15"+ vis.

Not too much to see in terms of fish, but, a nice dive.

So no ice on the pond, Man I was going their a couple of weeks ago, but someone said their was a ton of ice on it. I think it's going to be pretty nasty tomorrow so I guess it's going to have to wait.
Ever go to Sandwich town beach, Any bugs out. I'm thinking about sending in my lobster money for the permit.

No ice at all.

Another month or two before the bugs come out.

Someone recommended hathaway pond as one of the few spots on Cape if you just have to get a dive in. I may be on Cape next week. Can you pls. share w/ me details? How easy it it to access from parcking lot? This time of year, is it open anytime for diving? Crowded? Recommended plan??

I'm not too good w/ direction so I'll let somone else give them to you (and they can be found on the web). The pond is open 24hrs a day, it has a large, public parking lot and parking is not a problem. The walk from the lot to the pond is short and easy, entry is very easy.

As the season progresses there will be more and more diver there each weekend (this is very popular training spot).

I dove there friday night and the water temp was a steady 45degs.

You can make your entry either at the first right you see once you approach the pond or off the main beach. On the far side of the pond there is a lobster bouy marking the wreck, I ussualy kick out to her and decend that line (she's in about 30' of water) I then swim back (to my left if I facing back toward the shore) on the countor of the pond (staying in about 25-35' of water) which will eventaully take you to the car wreck and then the training platform and then the beach you mad the entry from. Cutting straight back from the wreck to the beach will bring you in deeperwater of perhaps 50-60'.

This is nice small pond that's fun to train in. If you are in the area it's worth going for a dive in. vis is this time of year is 15-20'

There were no other divers there Friday night, but, I was there a few weekends ago druing the day and there was a team of tech divers ( about 10 guys), whose gear I was drolling over (great lights, Rbs, etc.) But, it should not be crowded this time of year. I go night diving there all the time, but, you might want to dive in the day first to get oriented.

I actually dove in another much larger pond tonight. Long Pond in Plymouth. Water temp was 43, vis was poor. We hit 50', but, the pond goes as deep as 100'.

The way we go is 93 (from the south shore) and get off at the exit AFTER the one marked long pond road. All the LDSs can give you better directions.

If you go, just becareful of fisherman on the shore and in boats, I've never had any problems, but, I would not want to get on those guys' bad sides after a long, cold day of fishing w/ no fish but lots of beer. They have a reputation for not liking divers.

Entry is made to the right of boat ramp turn around complex (by the fence).

Like I said, this pond is pretty deep, you'll having not trouble seeing 60-70' and if you go far enough it hits over 100'. There are some underwater trails setup by divers as well.
