I'm on the Duane/Bibb Saturday and the Eagle/reef on Sunday...

Theresa - you are still on the calendar for this event but I was left with the impression from the other thread about SW you had decided to dive w/ SW instead. Can you clarify that??

It's a play on the name of the Mexican Independence Day more commonly known as Cinco de Mayo (May 5th)

Not exactly. Mexican Independence Day is September 15. May 5, 1862 was a Mexican victory in a battle in the war against the French invasion of Mexico.

Not exactly. Mexican Independence Day is celebrated on September 16th. They only ring a bell at 11pm on the 15th. You won't have any luck buying a greeting card for the day that's dated September 15

May 5th is celebrated by the Mexicans as a day of "unity and independence" but since Mexico eventually lost that war against France, I guess it's really just a reason for us to go diving.
