210-denier nylon

Hey, I've shopping around for my first BC and I keep running into "XXX - denier nylon" being touted as a key feature of the BC. My question is "What do the numbers mean?" Is this a thread count, so more is better? Also, grateful for your opinion on what is enough and what is too much (ie. not worth the extra money). Many thanks forthe help.

bigger number means thicker/tougher material. 200 dernier is windbreaker material, 1600 is canvas.
