This past weekend the dive community held the 37th annual Avalon Harbor Clean-Up. It is the one day in the year when SCUBA divers are permitted to dive in Avalon Bay to pick up trash accumulated over the year(s). Nearly 500 divers were registered for the event. This is the 19th year that Jill Boivin has served as the head organizer for the event. Kudos to her and a large team of volunteers who make this a success.

Rather than re-post here the images I have placed on Facebook, I'll simply add a link to those images for anyone interested.

Ken Kurtis of Reefseekers also has a great album of images on SmugMug from the event. They can be viewed here:

That old feller with the beard scares me and I ain't afraid of nutten !

>>> A big congratulations on the long over due and well deserved award >>>>

That encrusted SCUBA tank block is priceless! I wonder what story it can tell? Three hose rig early model SH regulator, gauges in a some what new mount and flotation attachment dates it. Was it dumped by the diver or accidently dropped over board ? Who owned it ? those are the questions ???

Every Year I recall the very first Clean up about 40 years ago. As I recall it was organized by Lill Lancaster , the then wife of Arnie Lancaster of Arnie's Reef fame.

The trip was free (at least for me?) I went over on the original Truth with Roy Hauser
Since it was the very first clean up we picked up tons of debris with bottles and other junk dating back to at lease the US Civil war. We bagged everything in burlap bags and tossed them over board in mid channel - history lost forever !

Mavis Hill did an article on the event for either SDM or Aquarius-- the main picture and lead picture was of me waking up the gangplank carried my black WW11 surplus dive bag ...

Memories !

Once again CONGRATUATIONS !!
