My lds in up state n.y told me that he heard " fla is trying to get a cut off date of 2000 on tanks".has any one heard this ?

Some shops have a cut off date for the older aluminum tanks before a certain year. They round it up
a bit and might include all manufacturers to avoid having to check every manufacturer and every exact
month and year on every aluminum tank. You may have a shop that will spend the time with you to see if
your borderline tank is of the newer alloy but for the most part the 20 year thing is to expidite the tank filling
process every time someone walks through the door with a twenty-something year old aluminum tank they
picked up on e-bay ! I see you mention 2000, have heard absolutely nothing about that. My comments refer to
a 20 year cut off on aluminum tanks or more often a 1990 and older date for aluminum tanks.

Here is the summarized DOT ruling once agian.

I can't see anyone investing the time it would take to get that date moved to 2000. The biggest hurdle would be proving WHY it should be changed. You need proof, not picking a date or age to get DOT to make a change. Now with that said there is nothing stopping individual buisinesses from instituting there own policy regarding cylinders other than customer input.
