I have heard the following thrown around: Chankanaab, Las Palmas and Bolones. Any comments?

Chankanaab and Las Palmas are nice for night dives, but Paradise still wins hands down for me.

Bolones is deeper (60 to 70ft) and the currents are often moving out away from shore...so I probably wouldn't advise this for a night dive Additionally, this isn't a constant reef, it's big coral mounds scattered around...so unless you're with a DM who knows the lay of the land there...you could find yourself searching the sand for something to see :)

Saw one glimpse of an octopus and that was about it.
I have NEVER done a night dive on Paradise where I haven't seen at least 10 Octopus... and i'm not exaggerating. Who were you diving with?

Due to the fact that I only dive with one Dive Op while on Cozumel I can't say he's the best (even though he is ;)) but Pedro Pablo from BlueXT~Sea has got eagle eyes and will find anything out there. Octopus, Seahorse... you name it - he'll find it.

I used to question if Paradise is really "the best" for night diving but after a rollercoaster ride on Villa Blanca and a ho-hum dive on Las Palmas I will never question it again. I got some killer Octopus pics that would never have happened on any other site. Paradise almost always has a mild current at night and is perfect for going slow, checking all the nooks and crannies and getting good photo opportunities.

I take full blame for those other dives... I was warned (by Pedro) but wanted to try something different. OK, out of 2 night dives on Las Palmas, 1 was actually pretty good.

Don't Give Up On Paradise!!!

I'd love to do Colombia Shallows though :crafty:

La Francesca for me......30-40 ft.....huge crabs, lobsters, eels, octopus, etc.

Be sure to turn off your lights at the end of the dive and check out the plankton....that is awesome sight!

When I dove Paradise, BlueX used a nice German girl instead of Pedro. She played finder for the group, but me and my dive partner did our own thing. Honestly, you have to be blind to miss all the crabs, lobsters, eels, toadfish, etc.

Paradise has never let us down yet for a night dive. Las Palmas isnt bad either.

Las Palmas couldnt compare to Paradise ! I thought Las palmas was quite boring compared to Paradise IMO , I would ONLY go to Paradise.

Jeff: dont count on Columbia for a night dive ;)

Maybe I'll just have to stay at an AI down south and dive with the house op... NOT!!! :mooner:

Maybe if you can book a 1-night stay. It would be easy to pick the night since the dives for the week will be posted on the board on Sunday. :D

Yeah, but would it be worth it for a 40 minute dive? LOL

Ummm, to clarify... I can last longer than 40 min, but I'm sure the dive ops down there call 'em early
