Does anyone know the approximate buoyancy of a 13 cu tank with valve full and empty ?

I am estimating my 1st stage and reg to be about 2-3 lbs neg, but not sure about the tank.

There are several different 13 cuft. tanks on the market.

Use one of the online tank specs charts.
Here's a link to the Tech Diving Limited one. Beware that numbers in these charts can be a little off. However, the numbers are great for getting an estimate of the buoyancy characteristics of a tank, provided that you can identify the manufacturer and model. Tank markings should help you properly ID the tank.

Thanks guys.

More questions if you don't mind. Looks like about 3-5 lbs negative total for the pony setup. I plan to sling it on my left side. Do people wear 3-5 lbs on the other side to balance out for trim ? Is all this weight factored into total weighting ?

Do your weighting without the pony in case you need to hand it off.

I have a 19cf pony and sling it on the left side. I do not have a problem needing to adjust weights to balance out. I doubt you will either. Just pretend it isn't there.

If you plan to hand the pony off then follow hypertech's advice. The problem with that is you'll be diving slightly overweighted by about 3.5 lbs all the time for the one time that you hand off the tank.

So another option is to forget about handing off the pony and adjust your weight according to the empty weight of the tank/reg. If you have the Catalina 13, from Bubbletrouble's link I get a -1lb buoyancy for the empty tank and -2.5 lbs for my pony reg= -3.5lbs. That's how much you can take off.

If you sling it will act like a keel and help keep you right side down. It is when you strap one to the side of the main cylinder on your back is when you will have trim issues and roll like a top heavy sub.

If I sling it on my left side without putting extra weight on my right side, will I tilt left ?

No, as other have said it does not throw you off enough to counter weight!
Just give it a try in a controlled way!
See you topside! John

I shoot video. I need the ability to put myself in any position and stay there perfectly still.

I dove with it years ago, but don't remember how I weighted myself. I seem to recall wearing the pony slung put the negative weight of the tank valve and reg at my left chest, throwing off my ability to shoot in a vertical position.
