You did a free dive to only 60 feet planning beforehand to use the pony for your ascent and figure this is a valid example of... what exactly?

Freediving to 60' is pretty common around here and likely where dumpsterDiver is as well... As I understand it, he took the pony because he had trouble getting a fish free and back to the surface. Since up until the use of the Pony he was not using compressed air, not really bounce diving. I would call this an example of "freeing a fish using a 13cf pony during a free diving competition."

HA HA HA You hate pony bottles don't you!

I didn't freedive down.

I got the fish stuck, left the gun (with the camera attached) on the bottom. I then got on the boat, grabbed the pony, got the boat to drop me 100 feet upcurrent of the spot and then swam like a maniac down, to the site and then chased a jewfish away. I was swimming hard and breathing FAST. I would think that was clear from the video.

The point is that I did all this on only 6.5 cu-ft of gas with zero effort to conseve air. It was EASY and MIGHT demonstrate that a 13 cu-ft bottle has more than enough air to ascend from 60 or 80 feet for most scuba divers.

Diving Rant

I can't type and I'm tired from talking

In your opinion, when does a compressed air tank become a "real" tank? Greater than 20cf? Greater than 40cf? Is the rant against the fact its slung? What about side mount diving? What about stage gas?

Why not just use a 30 it 40 you really barely notice it's there if you sling it properly. In my experience its harder to bring a small bottle when your on the water they bounce around more.

Only drawback I see to the larger ponies is fitting them in with air travel. A 13 travels fairly easily. Even a 19 can be packed.

For me, a 13 is enough and it travels with no problem.

You need to choose the right tool for the job, it is not a one size fits all world.

I am content with my 13 at 75'. I know it takes 3 cu ft to ascend (sans safety stop) based on repeated drills from that depth. I have a 4 times that capacity. It is reasonable to travel with so it gets used most of the time up to 100'

I have a 30', it looks really cool. It gets used maybe 2 times a year. I cannot travel with it via air and it does not disappear when slung. It may be neutral underwater, but it is a bulky SOB. Its also a pain to deal with topside. Its the right tool for some jobs (>100') and in those cases worth the bulk.

Air travel is the reason I went with a 19 vs a 30/40

13 cf works fine for me from my typical depths. ~85 ft.
