I may try to get up that way in a month or so for a dive on the oriskany.
I have a 13cf pony but thought I might rent a 30cf or 40cf pony for this dive
as well. Do the local dive shops or charters offer the steel 120's. I have a yoke
reg and was hoping to get a newer convertible valve type tank for the dive.
Also I may want to do a couple shallower dives with the 120cf tank and 30cf
pony to get my weight dialed in. No penetration planned just a conservative
profile with a look around at around 100 to 120 fsw. Do the charters up there run
any medium depth dive trips for weight and gear check ? (day before possibly).
Any referrals for a charter or shop that may have these 120cf steels for rentals ?
Thanks in advance for any info you may have to offer !

120 might be overkill unless you are a heavy-breather. If you're used to diving a tank of that size, then ignore me, as more gas is always better. If you're not used to diving a tank of that size, you might want to consider a 100cf tank. Remember that you will also be limited by your no decompression time limits. I can usually make a 35 minute dive on an hp100, which includes a dip into the 130ft range and have a bit of a safety margin in both gas and no decompression time. YMMV as you might breather more or less than I do.

A 13 might be a bit tiny. 19 is probably a bare-bones minimum, and a 30 or 40 would offer wiggle room for a slow ascent and safety stop(s)

My first two choices for charters would be H2O Below and Gary's Gulf Divers. Since you are in Florida, the H2O would be the more logical choice. I think Gary has high volume tanks on reserve, and Capt. Douglas could probably direct you to his shop of choice for rentals.

Hetland, I appreciate the info. Yeah, I have been diving the HP100's for years
now but sold off some tanks recently. I have been wanting to try a tall HP120 for
years just to see how they trim out. I'll check out H2O Below if I do get up that way.
Will also check on available rentals at Garys Gulf Divers.

I recommend DR Dive for the charter. I've dove with him several times, and have "NO" complaints. Captain Jim's boat is fast, you'll have a approximate 22 mile run to the "O", so faster is better!

I use "Dive Pros" dive shop, they have alot of rental gear to choose from.

There are numerous wrecks between shore and the "O"...hundereds. You should have no problem chartering a dive on some shallower stuff for a warm up or checkout dive.

I've added it to my list, thanks !

Gary, the 108's may work or I may try to get something down here that I can use
for a few days when I get up that way. I'll stop by when I get up that way.

cave filled lp95's will give you ~125.

I get ~250cf with my double 95's

Dr Dive here. Not a lot to add to what's been said here, other than to thank Native Spear-It for the kind words and to second the great advice you've been given. Please understand that the Captains here in Pensacola are friends and care about each other and our customers. All the Captains mentioned here will take good care of you. Call us if you have additional questions or if you are ready to set some trips up. That's what we're here for.
