My point is that it's better to have some rule of thumb than it is to have no rule of thumb. Some modify the rule and instead simply remember 20 minutes for 100 fsw and subtract 5 minutes for every 10 feet deeper and add 5 minutes for every 10 feet shallower. So you get:
130 fsw 5 minutes
120/10
110/15
100/20
90/25
80/30
70/35
60/40
shallow than that ...who cares
This is more conservative than DSAT at 60 fsw but close to something like Suunto. Again, nothing says you can't come up with your own rule of thumb that works for you.
Spend some time shallow at the end of every dive and it's hard to go wrong. Even if you are following a computer for the most part it's still good to shape your own profile rather than just following a computer blindly.
