Ok ok i bet this has been asked many times before but here goes, I need some info on the Salvo 10Watt HID bulb slug.

View attachment 31503

What is inside this part of the component? does the bulb connect straight to the cable or is there ballast in between? if some kind sole who has one of these lights could take a few pictures of the item disassembled then that would make my day, as all endeavours to obtain this info have to date, been fruitless.

Cheers

It definitely contains a ballast.

You can view the efforts of someone trying to deconstruct such a ballast over at TDS:

I have considered building my own ballast a couple of times, but with the availability of ballasts for this application improving so much, I would no longer consider this option. I actually purchased the components to do it, but when I realised how big this animal would be (without surface mount components), I shelved the project. I would certainly not be able to house the electronics in the head, which results in the cord becoming a high voltage conductor. Hmmm. Pass.

PS: There seems to be quite a lot of DIY projects at the moment involving the Trail Tech HID lamps for ATVs. You might want to check it out:

in side is a ballast which can be bought for about $50 here is the best part reardless if your light is fixed mr11 head or the focusable version it's still the same ballast made by welch allen. the bulbs on the other hand, at least the ten watt version are made by three difrent manufacturers.
how do i know all of this? i bought a light off ebay wired it up backwards and blew the entire light up... bulb ballast testube everything except the derlin shell. halcyon was absolutly no help so you can imagine my opinion of them now. actually if you want it pm me.
any more question shoot me message i know the things fowards and backwards now including how to install an electrode so you dont blow it up if you hook it up backwards.
