When counting dives do most people count their OW certification dives? My next trip in January I will hit 100 either way but I just want to know which dive I should be naked on.

After Christmas season, I bet you will be ready for a trip. Hope all is well in Big D. I quit logging my dives when I realized no one grades the test..... why wait until January? head to Blue Hole/Santa Rosa New Mexico or Bonne Terre Missouri and do a nekked dive there!! The water is spring fed and always 90 degrees....should be fine! Lol.

Merry Christmas Streydog!

Hello all,

Absolutelly. Your Open Water Course dives are real open water dives. Most of the cases from dive 1 to 4 of your loggbook.

They are training dives like could be the Asvance dives but still dives... so far you are deeper than 5 meters for longer than 20 minutes (15 for some organitzation) it is counted as a dive so you should log it.

So count with them... And congratulations for your 100th dive in advanced!!

Remmember the tradition... On your 100th dive you should dive naked! Or don't say anything untill you have done your 101th

Happy Bubbles

I think every one counts them. My 100th was uneventful If I ever reach 1,000 I'll try to make it special, but probably won't.

Counted mine. My 100th was in a cenote. Decided to forego the tradition!

If you swim under water then it is a dive (no other criteria).
But should you count it? (you count dives to prove experience of some sort)

Well, you can always postpone the decision (until you know what to prove = the criteria):

It is usefull to assign labels (freedive, scuba dive, pool, open water, night, fail, air, nitrox, overhead, quarry, tropical, ...) to your dives. Then you do a search and immediately get the count of dives of that type. If you prefer pen and paper, then you can have counters for ten different classes of dives. That's what I actually choose to do over software solutions.

The water is full of critters with sharp teeth. I have had a stupid little sunfish draw blood from biting my one chest air. No way am I waving a shriveled up worm in the open water of quarry, lake, or ocean. It is a small appendage but it is my appendage and I want to keep it all intact.

Ya I was joking about the naked part. I bet they wouldn't let me back on the boat. I did a night dive last Summer without a wetsuit and when I got back in the boat I had hundreds of blood worms stuck to my chest hair, wouldn't want to think about it. When it comes I will enjoy it in silence.

Yes, your first OW training dives count. All training dive count, they are dives. It's a pretty well known tradition and I think you should do it. I only got out of it because I was doing my divemaster training, and my 100th dive happened to be assisting on a junior open water course. I didn't want to scare the kid off...and wanted a job in my future. lol
