I am a tech (CCR and cave) diver and have way too much gear :)
I am looking for a regulator for 100% deco O2 bottle.
Bottle is O2 clean (!) and I have *lots* of regs have used for Nitrox up to 40% so far.
Options:
- buy a new reg specifically for the deco bottle - but which one?
- O2 clean my trusty (old) but well serviced Oceanic PX2 First stage

...but the service kit says 'for use up to 40%'.
Thoughts? Can these old Oceanic regulators be cleaned/setup for 100% (I can use Viton throughout).
Recommendations for a good, solid 100% deco reg?

Hi there Scubaablake,

Have a look and let me know if it any help for you. New o-rings are adde every day since this category was just developed.

O2 clean your Oceanic

Any of your regs will work. Do an annual service with any reputable tech and they will come back Oxygen clean. I'm a tech for multiple brands, none of them are using incompatible grease or orings.

Some of you will recall when Oceanic came out with a dedicated oxygen reg about 20 years ago. It was funny, the ONLY difference was a green trim ring on the first stage and the additional $100 price tag. When we rebuilt the reg, it called for the exact same service kit as the reg without the green trim ring.

One of the great things about a Scubapro MK-2 R-190 is it is one of the few regs you can change tanks with underwater when the feces hits the fan and do no damage to the reg.

o2 clean the px2 if it is din. you can get viton orings in bulk from O-Rings, AS5688 or Metric, We make getting O-Rings easy! if you are buying trident seats and filters to diy the kits. drops the rebuild cost down vs the oceanic rebuild kit.

you will need to get a hold of the oring size chart for the px2 or measure the dimensions of the ones you take off though.

I've done it with an Oceanic Alpha, too, with no ill effect. I was careful to hold the DIN valve hole down and cracked the valve to expel the water before it was seated. Maybe that counts, I dunno.

It doesn't matter. All of my regs have been submerged underwater at some point.

A long time ago I had an instructor that would play a game at the end of confined water class. In 4' of water all of the students would essentially try to make the other students surface. Usually, the last person to surface would win a prize like a nice logbook or reg bag. Rip off a mask, yank out a reg, turn off your air. Turning off the air was pretty effective most of the time. The trick never worked on me as I'd simply reach back and turn the air back on.

One day, we were playing the game and I was clearly winning when an instructor turned off my air. I reached back to turn it on and nothing was there. He had turned it off, waited until I breathed the last breath, spun the yoke nut, popped the cam band and dropped the tank out of the bottom of my bcd, swimming off, laughing the whole way...with my tank. This was the new and bullet proof way for winning. We used it countless times over the years without a single reg having issues.

I had been using a Hollis O2 reg for my O2 bottle. The design is very similar to the SP Mk 2.

I recently changed to using Dive Rite XTs on both my deco bottles. I like them better because they are fairly compact 1st stages and they have a swivel turret. The swivel lets me run the LP hose neatly down the side of the bottle when stowed and then swivel to run up and around my neck when deployed, without making a 90 degree bend anywhere.

I also liked that I was able to buy yellow and green face plates for cheap for the 2nd stages - along with yellow and green hoses, so they are nicely color-coded to help me make sure I don't use the wrong one at the wrong time.
