With the last dive holiday 2 years ago, I want to do some relaxed diving end of May. There seems to be a multitude of hotels and choices. Security might be an issue (solo female traveller). I am looking for a good shop, good diving, decent and rather quiet accommodation (no tent), maybe option to do day trips to some good offshore dive spots. Diving with a crowd should be avoided.
In 2003, I stayed in Wadi Lahami where the diving was nothing to write home about. Is it worth going to somewhere else around Marsa Alam for really good diving? How about ElQuseir?

Ras Mohammed was great some 15years ago, but Sharm is too touristy for me.

All recommendations will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Liberty

My choice would be Marsa Alam, Emperor Divers.
Nice realaxed town, good dive center.
Dives are pretty good aswell (when lucky)
Lots of turtles, seen quite a few (small) sharks. and loads of other RedSea stuff.

I would say Marsa Shagra few km's norh of Marsa Alam , they have chalets , tents etc...... with all inc. accommodation , a lot of daily and shore diving diving including the famous elephinstone . check their website marsa-shagra.org

Thank you for your reply.
Actually, it is a bit difficult to get flights to Marsa Alam from here. ElQuseir could be more easily reached from Hurghada according to my travel agent, the transfer to Marsa Alam for one person would be quite expensive. Thus, I wonder whether Marsa Alam offers better diving, more pristine reefs and less divers than ElQuseir.

How about offshore reefs like Elphinstone etc.?

Cheers,

Elphinstone is also local to Marsa Alam. You could also just fly Cairo and pick up an Egypt Air flight to MA if you're finding it difficult to find a direct flight from Europe. It's also your best bet to dive with as small a crowd as possible, one of things you state you're looking for, as so many sites further north are typically jampacked with divers. You don't mention liveaboards....i'd recommend doing a Blueotwo trip..something like their "simply the best" itinerary. You'll get to the best sites, including places like Brothers that can't be reached by day boats, and being on a LOB solves your safety concern as well.
