1/2/13 Bari & Cliff/La Machaca

Took it easy today. Started out at the donkey sanctuary first thing in the morning.


Bari reef - free swimming gold tail eel with several fish in tow, flounder, grouper, feisty sergeant majors nipping at our fins guarding their eggs.


Second dive Cliff to La Machaca - several tiger grouper one was huge, huge school of jacks under the moored boats, lots of cow fish, crabs, shrimps, usual suspects. We love that dive.


Buddy dive has been running out of tanks. Hope it's just because few have been working due to New Years. However, the ol boy working there the past two days has been doing a great job of making sure we get out of there with tanks quickly.

I love encountering grouper! Thanks for the report. I will be out there at the end this month. First trip to Bonaire, taking notes of dive sites.

Thanks! I think we have seen tiger grouper every time we dive Cliff/La Machaca. Had an awesome experience last May with a big grouper at a cleaning station on that dive. Mouth wide open with little cleaner fish swimming all around. Got all in video about ~2' from the camera. Did that dive twice that day. Saw a frog fish and scorpionfish the second dive. Hard to imagine why that's our favorite, eh?

I stayed at Captain Don's twice back in the 90ies: Always had the best dives on the house reef (La Machaca) - including lots of grouper cleaning stations, and night dives with Tarpon around us all the time. morecowbells, you will love it there, have fun!
