I think you can die with dignity underwater...but only if you are wearing a BP/W and in a perfectly horizontal trim....

anything other than the above needs to be rediculed and debated for at least a good week.

Diving has no appeal to me BECAUSE you could die doing it. It has appeal DESPITE that.

I used to jump horses over things taller than I am. It was great fun. The only part of it I didn't like was that the risk of getting hurt or killed doing it was pretty high. In fact, I stopped doing it after a succession of injuries proved to me that the risks were TOO high. I stopped breaking young horses for the same reason.

I suppose there are some people for whom the risk IS the appeal. Honestly, I really, really don't want to dive with those people.

I don't want Death to find me sitting placidly in my chair, or lying in my bed, waiting for him

Or as one far greater than us said "Do not go gentle into that goodnight".

In every risk-taking activity we do because we want to do it, some folks will die. In a real sense, they must die. Otherwise, we didn't contrive the kind of risk we want to deal with.

I have never thought of diving as a risk taking activity! With the proper knowledge and a bit of common sense it is as safe as any other activity, IMO. Of course it can kill you, so can an asteroid, a bolt of lightning, a gas main break or an out of control car. I have 4x4 quads for the days I feel like testing fate in a watery grave.

This is a sport/hobby/recreation/vocation that provides relaxation and adventure in the unknown for most of the folks doing it in my experience. They fully expect to return from their dives! If you seek thrills in a hostile, alien environment you cannot survive in without a life support system you probably would also enjoy a good game of Russian Roulette!
