I am going to be in Montevideo in about 3 weeks. Doesn't sound like there is much diving in the area, and it will be winter, but any idea what the water temperatures would be?

Balmorhea closed to diving until further notice

I was out there in February, they had lots of signs up about swimmers itch. I managed to get it. I was only on my hands and ankles (where I had exposed skin) Looked like chigger bites, itched like crazy. Took about a week for everything to stop itching and another week for all of the...

    Balmorhea in christmas

Nope, the actual Fort in Fort Davis is a National Park. Instead of going right towards the State park and the observitory, you hang a left and go about 1/2 mile and the original Fort is on the right. There is a burn out there, though charcoal and campstoves/gas grills are allowed.

Which PADI specialties are useful and which ones are "underwater basket weaving"?

I would have to add Navigation and Deep diving to the list of useful courses. Also, if you want to get into photography or videography - finding someone that does these will save you a bunch of time and energy, so you don't have learn everything from scratch. Ice diving is definitely...

    Big pools near Dallas?

The Denton Natatorium is huge. (15' deep) Also Kirby Creek Natatorium in Grand Prairie is good sized. Both will let you in to dive for a nominal fee during free swim times. I don't recall what it was in Denton, but Kirby Creek is $2.

    Ice Diving 2011

I don't have any classes or trips planned for the 2011 season and it is getting a bit late in the season to plan one, unless you can find a group that is already ice diving and can jump in on their class/outing. I have some contacts that I can make if you are really interested and can do...

    Good winter diving in Texas

Well. It is about a 30minute drive to DFW airport from Dallas. From there you can be in Cozumel in a couple of hours. The water is warm and clear. Also don't forget the Gulf. I personally consider driving distance to be within a 12hr range, cause that is what you can do in a day. Wich puts...

    Ice Diving anyone?

We drive to Colorado and Iowa. From the DFW area it is 12hrs to Pueblo and 15hrs to Okoboji, IA. (I know it is a long drive, but you can get there in a day) American Eagle flys into Green Bay. To drive to Green Bay is about 20hrs. You will want a dry suit. I have seen people ice...

    Ice Diving anyone?

Hello everyone, I am trying to decide if I am going to put together an Ice Diving trip again this year. Over the last couple of years the participation has been mostly non-existent. Last year JR and myself were the only 2 and we went to Colorado and dove at San Isabel. So I am...

    Winter Diving in North Texas

Don't pay attention to TimeLiner - that is just the way he is. :D Since you have the dry suit, use it. At 41F, you will eventually get cold anyway. It just takes a little longer, but the upside is that when you get out and the surface temps are cool, your not standing there wet and cold...

    STOLEN Dive Trailer

That is great news!! Did they happen to find a 4x6 well cargo next to it? I had a trailer stolen in December and it hasn't shown up anywhere yet. I'll probably get a new one in the spring if it doesn't show up. Randy

The last time I dove Joe Pool, vis was so poor that I couldn't read my guages when I held them up to my mask. I was kind of like diving in a milkshake.
