The next time you try the mask off skill, tilt you your head to the side. Some people are bothered by the exhaust bubbles from the regulator and they get water up their nose. Tilting your head to one side or the other will help divert the bubbles.

How is the diving around the Dallas/FW area? I'm in Shreveport, 3 hours away. We end up going to Athens on most of our check out dives.

Your refering to approaching a paniced diver on the surface. If the paniced diver tries to grab you, then you go under (the last place the paniced diver wants to be) swim below the diver and approach from the back to gain control in a rescue situation.;)
