    Suunto EON Core dim display?

Thanks very much for the feedback. I'm glad my experience sounds different from yours. Let's hope they can fix it.

    Suunto EON Core dim display?

Yes, I installed the screen protection. When I dove on Saturday, I had to cup my hand over the screen to cut the glare. That left the brightness from the display itself and found it was still too dim to read in the remaining daylight. It was a cloudy day and wasn't really light out so I expected...

    Suunto EON Core dim display?

I got a new EON Core last summer and have completed 4 dives with it in the Seattle area. I've observed that the display is rather hard to see because the numbers appear dim and also because there's a good amount of glare on the display's plastic. I turned up the display brightness to the highest...

Kona dive op for Young diver?

You might try a shore dive at Four Mile first. Assuming the surf is down, it's an easy entry and a short swim out to the reef. There could be a few people there but there certainly won't be a crowd. If you like the shore dive thing, there are plenty more sites around the coast and none of them...

    Hawaii Hiring?

I dove with Chris at Kona Shore Divers Kona Shore Divers | Scuba Diving & Tour Company | Kona Hawaii in June/July and he was looking for instructors then. He's a great guy and I expect you'll enjoy working with him. Pop him an email to see if he's still looking. Also, Jack's Diving Locker was...

    Diving Bora Bora and Moorea

I also preferred Moorea over Bora Bora. Moorea has beautiful healthy reefs with sharks everywhere. My dive in Bora Bora was within the lagoon so visibility wasn't the best.

Kona trip in four days- Dive op or stick to Shore?

For shore diving, I suggest contacting Chris and Yoshie at Kona Shore Divers. They're great folks and will coach you on where to go. They were very helpful for our trip in June and they even dropped off rental tanks at my condo. Kona Shore Divers | Scuba Diving & Tour Company | Kona Hawaii

Pls suggest lightweight tropical BC to replace Zeagle Ranger

I wanted to thank everybody for their input and share what I landed on. As a bit of a surprise to myself from where I started, I chose a Scubapro Hydros Pro. It's not the lightest thing around, but it's got a lot of the stuff I like about the Zeagle Ranger (toughness, comfort) with some...

    Atomic Aquatic Regulators.

Just came across this thread and wanted to contribute an issue with my B2 while travelling, somewhat like drrich2. I've had this low serial number unit for almost 20 years so it was originally a B1 that's been upgraded to a B2. In 2008, I had been diving with it consistently in the Keys and...

Pls suggest lightweight tropical BC to replace Zeagle Ranger

Hmmm...hard to remember the size now since it was a long time ago and I was pretty young. You're probably right though. The 2" webbing can't be so bad if people aren't mentioning it all the time. The split crotch strap setup on the XDeep Ghost looks like an improvement over a single strap.

Pls suggest lightweight tropical BC to replace Zeagle Ranger

Thanks for your feedback, Iowwall. I appreciate that you switched from a Ranger. I'm hearing that you liked your Ranger, but like me, you found it too bulky. As that switch removed mass, it also removed some capability like pockets. That's no surprise, but it's something to consider. I'm glad to...

Pls suggest lightweight tropical BC to replace Zeagle Ranger

JohnN, Dog Beach at the mouth of the harbor is exactly what I was thinking about when walking with my rig. Going over all those rocks is challenging under any circumstances and the Ranger helped a lot. My 15 year old son, who was a newly certified diver on this trip, comparatively struggled with...

Pls suggest lightweight tropical BC to replace Zeagle Ranger

Thanks to everybody for your input and suggestions. I really appreciate it. I'll share my thoughts on everybody's feedback. Centrals made a good point that padding isn't helpful once in the water and it's only useful when walking on land. As I've been shore diving in Hawaii most recently...

Pls suggest lightweight tropical BC to replace Zeagle Ranger

Thanks very much for your suggestions everybody. I hear you're telling me to try a BP/W and not simply dismiss its comfort based on how they look. I'll definitely try some on and see how they feel. The Ghost looks like an interesting option, especially with all the padding I'm likely to want...

Pls suggest lightweight tropical BC to replace Zeagle Ranger

I recently returned from a trip to Hawaii where I shore dove with the Zeagle Ranger I've had since 1998. Clearly, I've loved this BC for a while as it served me very well when I dove off my own boat in the Florida Keys and as I dragged it around the Caribbean and Pacific. I replaced its 44#...
