    Retirement job driving dive boats?

Yep...Last Summer our lake was the busiest I've ever seen it. Even at night. Counted 24 out during one night. Most of them must not understand their throttle levers have more than 2 options: idle or wide open throttle. Some of their "captains" behavior was just a tad questionable...

    Retirement job driving dive boats?

If I were to do the dive boat captain thing, Ghost95s above post is probably the avenue I would pursue.

Palantic Xtreme single tank S/S BPW w 40 LB wing

Thanks for the heads up! I suspected that would be the case. I think I'll pass on the Palantic "deal". I'll most likely end up either buying the DGX package, piecemealing something together or wait patiently for a good deal on something made by DiveRite, Mares, XDeep and other name brands.

Palantic Xtreme single tank S/S BPW w 40 LB wing

That's my concern. I've been looking at the DGX BP/W setup for $100.00 more. The $250.00 price tag of the complete Palantic rig snapped me to attention. Being a Practitioner of Skinflint SCUBA Diving is my curse. LOL The seller told me it is 2" continuous webbing, with no padding.

Palantic Xtreme single tank S/S BPW w 40 LB wing

I've been offered a brand new Palantic Xtreme BP/W setup. Comes with 3 mil stainless steel backplate, harness with crotch strap, 2 tank bands and a 40 pound donut wing. The 40 pound wing seems like overkill for my use, but I can buy this set for $250.00 (brand new in box). I'm not familiar...

WOW! Back in my law enforcement days, I arrested someone that had a device that looked like that thing. It was used to smoke marijuana. The user put a lit joint on the holder inside of it and squeezed the bag part to drive the marijuana smoke deeper into the lungs. What could possibly go...

    1963 wet sub on Craigslist

Looks like the old Ski-Boose we used to tow behind a snowmobile. Would be a pretty neat toy, especially if it used modern batteries/equipment. $7,500.00 seems a tad rich, though.

THE "PERFECT ( being horizontal ) TRIM" HOAX

I agree with the sentiment of "whatever trim I need at the time to have the best time". However, if a diver's idea of "have the best time" is to trash a reef or do their best impression of a crop duster and kick up silt; I question whether SCUBA is a good fit for them...

what kind of diver are you?

During my ice diving days, we used 1/4" (7 mil) wetsuits. Good times....

    Greetings from an old timer

MichaelMc nailed it: there certainly can be a lot to see in the top 33'. Some decent diving/snorkeling can be found in waters that aren't even 33' deep. Some of the lakes/ponds/rivers and even salt water areas in my area would need to be dredged to reach 33'. :)

    Budget regulator

As a Practitioner of Skinflint SCUBA Diving (IOW I'm a cheap bastard), my advice to you is find a nice, "low mileage" used set of high quality regulators, have them inspected/serviced by a qualified technician and then enjoy them for many years. There a lot of people out there who decided to try...

    Retirement job driving dive boats?

Ghost95 and Scraps: Thank you for your insight and words of wisdom!I Scraps: Your thoughts on skippering a less complex excursion boat (with less "needy" passengers) sounds more like something I would like. I'm in good physical shape for my age; but in the interest of "keeping it real", my 20s...

Am I Stuck Forever at 40 Feet???

360GUY: I concur with the quoted post from Marie13. Edit: the above post from OTF also is a good one. I would have also quoted it if I'd seen it before I posted. I take a daily dose of over the counter (OTC) Loratadine. This has helped me with equalizing (both SCUBA diving and flying). FWIW...

    Retirement job driving dive boats?

I'm new to ScubaBoard, but have been SCUBA diving off and on since the early 1980s. I'm intrigued by the possibility of captaining a dive boat, as a part-time retirement job. Still researching the steps I would need to take to achieve this. I most likely would end up taking the dreaded "Paper...

Why Couples Training (Sometimes) Sucks - Full Version

Sorry to hear that, Jafo! I'm glad my wife likes to snorkel. She loved the intro to SCUBA class, but she as a medical condition that makes it almost impossible to equalize her inner ear. Flying also causes problems for her. She can handle the airlines, but not when flying unpressurized...
