    Scuba Works in Jupiter

We had a south current for pat of last week. Army Corp has been dumping water from Lake O in to the St. Lucie. That combination really mucked up viz. Luckily the stream ran close enough Friday and over the weekend to wash all that nasty water away.

Captain Jeff at SW is a great captain too. Jeff is one of the best spear hunters in PBC and an all around great guy. Ask him about some of his underwater archeology work. Overall, SW is a good shop with a good crew but Jeff makes that’s boat great.

Congrats on the fish! Mutton are tough to shoot. Definitely get yourself a dog tag for the gun. Johnoly knows what he’s talking about. Cheapest insurance there is.

Let us know how the visibility is. Heard mixed reviews yesterday concerning viz with the NE swell.

Question Suggested weather-"safe" & reasonably-priced locations for OW checkouts in March

Bonaire or Curacao is the some of the most reliable weather in the Florida and Caribbean area. Lots of dive shops and operators to choose from on both islands.

Our dive stats are almost identical. My only non-FL dives were in Bonaire as well. For all the South-FL diving we’ve done, I’m surprised we haven’t run in to each other. Or, maybe we have and didn’t realize it. Either way we should change that this year!

Got out on Saturday morning 12/30 with JDC. My last dives of 2023. In total I tallied 119 dives this year, 98 of which were in South Florida. We did Scarface/Kirle’s and Tunnels this morning. 60 feet of viz on Scarface and 30ish on Tunnels. The better water was definitely south. Saw a few...

Never dove with them so couldn’t speak first hand. Good addition. I’ll have to try them out.

Thoughts on Upcoming Trip (Recommendations, etc)

Solid idea. There are several shuttle options to and from Largo from MIA and FLL. You really don’t need a car once you’re there. Several restaurants within a 10-15 minute walk, some even closer. The only variable is the weather. Food options to check out: - Sharkey’s - Post dive beer, bar food...

The good diving in that area is done out of Hillsboro inlet. There are a handful of good operators around there. DxDivers and South Florida Diving Headquarters are two that I have had good experience with. Force -E Fort Lauderdale is another good option. They are just a shop, no boats, but...

I agree on principle. But there is time and effort required on the part of the agency and shop to develop and administer the required knowledge. Hence, in its current format, the nitrox course can’t just be given for free. Nitrox should be integrated in to open water course work. This would...

    Question Diving with JDC

It’s the sign of a good restaurant! I’ve always been lucky there at lunch time. Dinner hour can be tricky but if you don’t mind sitting at the bar you usually won’t wait more than 15 minutes.

Roger that. I’ll add them to the grocery list. No size limits right? I don’t see anything on the FWC website about them.

How do you store these crabs during a dive? I’ve heard many say they are worth catching/eating. Do you prepare them just like any other crab?
