MARES FULL VIEW MASK ..... Why I cant find Spare parts

I have the exact same problem with a Mares X Vision mask. Love the mask but both buckles are cracked. Seems to be a common problem, and would not be a big deal if we could buy them easily - especially via mail order since most local dealers outside of the US and Europe can't be bothered to...

    Need for standard business practices

Initially I had no idea I could report bad dive shops, and since PADI does not send questionnaires for Discover Scuba Diving or situations where the student fails to complete a certification... those two horrible dive shops got away with it. Since then I learned about the various options...

Dive 3.0 Computers for aging eyes

I tried once to dive with lenses in my mask. It was horrible. I lost 1/3 of the mask's viewing area for the readers, and the water droplets on the lenses made the lenses useless. But a mask that comes from factory with the reading prescription might be better (as some mentioned). But now...

Dive 3.0 Computers for aging eyes

As we get older the exposure to sunlight over the years pretty much guarantees that we will need reading glasses, even to read our dive computers. The magnifying effect of water and large fonts of some computers helps, but there is a point when reading lenses at the bottom of the mask become...

Newbie issues. What is your dive problems stats?

Based on your description I am going to guess that you certified with a very bad outfit that is more interested in pumping out certificates and making money than in turning you into a good diver. But it can be remedied. First, study those books or e-learning material they gave you, search on...

Best beginner dive center and shallow diving near Miami and Ft Lauderdale

Thanks all for your help. Sounds like Key Largo is the best option, with Lauderdale by the Sea as a solid fallback. Answering some questions / comments: - She is not ready to move from her ScubaDiver to the full OpenWater cert, so at least for now we only want more dives, with supervision and...

Best beginner dive center and shallow diving near Miami and Ft Lauderdale

My wife recently certified ScubaDiver (12m, with a DM), has only 4 dives and some remaining fears. I would like to take her diving in January in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale area. What are the best shallow diving sites in the area? Most importantly, which are the dive centers serving those sites...

Just looking for a little info help

All the outfits I dived with had a captain that stayed on the boat. He often has to move the boat to pick up divers as they surface at different locations. I also agree that if you jump in the water with your clients you want to be at a minimum a divemaster and preferably an instructor.

    Online dive log

I was using the PADI app and scubaearth but got very frustrated at how buggy and poorly designed they were. Wanting something simple, I recently I switched to Diviac and although I found a couple bugs it is far better. It also has an iPhone app that should let me tag new dive sites by GPS...

TG-5 for occasional photos - what lighting gear?

For starters, although I enjoy a nice photo like the next guy, I am not an avid photographer that would carry the camera in his hands for the whole dive. I think I will usually want to carry my camera clipped on my rig and only take it out occasionally to snap a photo. The TG-5 and its Olympus...

    Computers for beginners

Multigas is quite irrelevant to an entry level computer or even a general recreational computer, until you realize that if you want to penetrate most wrecks/caverns you will need at least some entry level Tec certifications and gear. Then multi-gas capability on the entry level computer becomes...

Dan Travel Insurance failed us again are there any better alternatives

I hit a different problem with DAN, even before needing to file a claim. To start, I don't need the DAN medical coverage, as my regular medical insurance is one of the few that already covers me abroad and covers diving accidents, hyperbaric chamber and medivac. But I had read of DAN doing an...

BCD with few pockets - what gear and where?

I recently bought a Scubapro Litehawk BCD. I love the BCD and not having those big wings around the waist, but I find myself trying to figure out what is the best place for my gear. Obviously I can clip it to the various D-rings or even get a thigh pocket (the Dive-Rite one looks...

Roadmap to Wreck, Cave, multiple tanks

Thanks to all for the extensive input. I probably need to give a few more details: - My primary diving at this time is recreational. I find caves, wrecks and longer times alluring. - I do most of the truly interesting diving during vacation trip, and I want to be able to reach it and do it...

Roadmap to Wreck, Cave, multiple tanks

I am mainly a recreational diver for now, but I am finding that several of the recreational PADI courses (AOW and some of the specialties) to be very lightweight, mostly rehashing the same topics from earlier courses without adding much useful content. I have an interest in doing Wreck...

    Computers for beginners

As a recommendation for a dive computer at an entry level price, I did a lot of research when I bought mine back in April. At the time the best value for the money seemed to be the Cressi Giotto. Fairly conservative in its default settings (buy I seem to remember that the safety factor is...

My farmer John / Shorty is obsolete. ??

I mostly dive in 15-17C water. When I started diving I bought a cheap locally made 5mm two-piece. It is ugly, but mix and matching it with a 3mm vest and a lycra skin suit I am comfortable and protected from the warmest to pretty cold water. My initial thought was to not spend too much, but I...

    Is this really OW diving???

Those pictures remind me of my wife's first Discover Scuba Diving in Cozumel (off a cruise) where she got a little instruction on land, ZERO instruction in the water, and when she was too nervous to submerge the instructor tied her with a line to him so that she just got dragged floating on the...
