High Pressure Fibre Tanks for shore diving???

Awesome thanks man. It was firefighter tanks that I was looking at. I think my best bet is gonna be to buy a HP100, as it should allow me to ditch some lead from the belt when I normally dive AL80's, and carry significantly more gas than an AL80. The best process I think I have found is to...

High Pressure Fibre Tanks for shore diving???

Hey Divers, I moved back to southern California, and while the funds are tight I can't afford to do all my diving off a boat. I was looking around at tanks and noticed that fire fighters use a fibre wrapped tanks filled to 4500 psi (300bar). Some online specs indicate these tanks are much...

    Best semidry wetsuit

Personally I love my Solafx and stay incredibly warm for dives at 16C for an hour. It really has made the cold SoCal waters an enjoyable dive. With a tight fit (most important part) good seals and great construction- I don't feel any water even enter the suit much less circulate. My wife also...

O2 consumption Question- CCR divers ???

Hey Diver's did some googling trying to answer my own question and wouldn't mind having the board double check my work: 1kg silver oxide absorbs 0.15 kg of CO2 Average person makes 0.5 - 0.6 grams of Co2 per minute = 3 grams Silver oxide per minute 1kg silver oxide should scrub for = 333...

O2 consumption Question- CCR divers ???

Hey guys new questions about scrubbers. For this thought experiment let's assume it doesn't make sense to use the common sofnalime. Whatever scrubber material is chosen needs to be reusable. Doing some reading: submarines and the space station are using silver oxide canisters for CO2 scrubbing...

    ASL sign language U/W?

ASL only seems like a good idea if you already know ASL. I have a feeling it's not as efficient as our specialized signs for our very specialized tasks. Anything I can't send via hand signals gets written on a slate.

Surf suit over shortie scuba suit?

I put a 3mm shorty underneath my rental 7mm for open water. Catalina was shivery that December. It still wasn't enough to keep me warm. I got a solaFX semidry and am now a happy diver.

O2 consumption Question- CCR divers ???

Gareth thanks for the great reply. It makes sense that the scrubbers become less effective when there's more pressure. So if I have a constant pressure of .3 ATM the scrubbers should last awhile compared to diving?

O2 consumption Question- CCR divers ???

Hey tbone thanks for the reply. So at a consumption rate of 1 liter/min how long would one of these 3 liter bottles filled to (3400 psi) last? Faber FX-23 (3L) Cylinder for CCR, White | Dive Gear Express® Obvisouly the scrubber will be next on the list: How much scrubber would be needed...

O2 consumption Question- CCR divers ???

Hey Divers, I am doing preliminary research into high altitude life support systems and have a few questions that where not covered in open water. If a rebreather was loaded with 100% O2 and the wearer where under 30% atmospheric pressure (~5psi) how long would that bottle last? Is there some...

    Where to get Neoprene??

Hey thanks for the links to McMaster. I have looked through rubbercal and might go by there shop and see if they can set me up. Has anyone made a wet or dry suit themselves in the past? How did it go?

    Where to get Neoprene??

Closed cell neoprene would be great to find, although I'm finding 3-5mm costing 10-12$ sqft Really I want a closed cell foam made from a natural & Butyl rubber mix. This material needs to be resistant to ultra cold (-40). Any advice as to what of the more common neoprene would be best? I'm...

    Where to get Neoprene??

Hey guys I am looking to get neoprene in a roll, and have been having a hard time finding any on the net. The rubber suppliers seem vague on the properties of their materials. Specifically Im looking for stuff 3-5mm thick and closed cell. It doesn't need to have any lining as I plan on adding...

attached hood or not for a exposure suit

As a beach entry diver its nice to have a wetsuit vs dry suit in the durability department. Also wetsuits don't need the seals to be perfect. There are definitely some pro's to finding a wetsuit thats warm enough vs 'just get a dry suit'.

attached hood or not for a exposure suit

I can't stand how a hood/vest feels tucked into a wetsuit. They always seem to bunch up uncomfortably and leak. I LOVE my aqualung solaFX, but a lot of that love has to do with how well the suit fits me. you definitely gotta try it on. For example my wife tried on both a hollis neotek and a...

dry suit thermals or semi dry wetsuit

when I was doing OW/AOW in Southern California I found I was consistently too cold in rental 7mm with a hood. Even putting a 2mm shorty under the 7mm I still was uncomfortable past the first thermoclines. These dives where all 60-90 Feet and 55-65 Fahrenheit for about an hour. The instructor...

    Dive computers... SO many choices!

To the OP- I am also looking for a new dive computer for the wife because she says the DG03 is too big for her wrists. (She has tiny wrists) so now I am looking at the Mares Pro Puck in wrist form. Looks like a solid nitrox computer at a great price. Does anyone here have time on one?
