I've seen lots of sharks. The only time I was concerned I could see the shark. I was off of a large pontoon dive boat in Florida Keys. We were entering the water, which had limited visibility and the crew decided to feed the Goliath Groupers under boat some hot dogs. I'm still on the surface...
Redundancy is good. If your lone computer fails at least you have gas pressure to guide you on your immediate and controlled return to the surface. I carry two computers because most of the time I'm diving far from a place where I can easily fix the problem in time to dive again on that trip...
I read about that incident earlier. I had dived that site once in about 1982 when I lived on Oahu. It's a locals spear fishing spot...which is why I only dived it once. I didn't want to intrude on their hunting grounds. I speared fish too and I just chose other spots.
Usually if I can point the focus square at the actual subject it focuses fine. Judging where to set my strobes (I shoot them in manual) is a bit difficult
I have been shooting UW photos for a few years now. My setup is the Olympus EPL 10 in an AOI housing and two Inon S2000 strobes. I have a Kraken Hydra 1200.
I've used in on a few dives and maybe 300 shots so far. I might be doing something wrong but when it's on and I'm trying to find and focus...
Funny thing, I live on Bonaire and I do see this done a lot even in 2023. It generally seems to be the Dutch divers that do it. My regulator dust "cap" is a ball with no recess to hold water. It's dry in seconds in the sun before I get a chance to install it.
Totally agree. While it's not for beginners negative entries are a tool in the box. My wife and I have used them in instances where clearing the surface quickly is important. Once on a "hammerhead" dive on Molokai where the the best drop spot was a bit choppy and required the boat to get close...
I just noticed the same issue. I went to my backup analog compass and it was stuck too. Time to get my wrist mount compass in the gear kit until I can replace my console. I want to get a backup computer for trips away from home.
They don't really do that here. There have been numerous fatalities since the most famous one of Fiona Sharp who died on a solo rebreather dive here. Friends of hers are still hoping to hear what was learned from looking at and analyzing her tanks and the information on her computers but nothing...
As usual there is little information in the article. From a Facebook post another group of divers nearby saw CPR being administered on the shore. No information if it was pre or post dive. I'll try and get more information as it's available...if it's available...
