    HOG BP2 Tool

The Scubapro MK25 tools will not work with the BP2. Different diameters. You do need a special piston stem o-ring install tool and piston bullet, but it is doable (although messy & tedious) without them too.

    Cave diving in Guangxi, China

Read about the opening of a dive centre in Du'an, Guangxi to support cave divers. Also read some reports of explorations going on there. Does anyone have reliable info of the cave conditions there? Depth, visibility, logistics? From what I've read the caves seem to be deep, 100-200m range...

Multiple Stage Bottle Positioning for Cave

When carrying 2 bottom stage bottles for a cave dive, do you breathe down: 1. the stage bottle furthest away from you first, or 2. the stage bottle nearest to you? I can think of pros/cons for each. #1: Pros If you breathe down the one closer first, the heavier outer stage will press down on...

    Drysuit and drysuit course

If you get the Santi steer clear of the tizip. Mine (Emotion) leaked after 2 years and I was told I'm one of the lucky ones because mine lasted so long. The GUE centre that replaced my zipper had a bin full of tizips.m If I had to choose a Santi again I'd go with Elite. The Emotion material...

    Drysuit and drysuit course

You might want to take a look at Rofos too. Heard good things about it from owners and its priced very attractively. I've seen a few in person and it looks to be very well made with quality materials.

    Maintaining depth without visual reference?

Green goop has lots of particulates for you to stare at. Other tricks you can try: Put the depth gauge close to your eye. Wear it further down towards your wrist. Switch between looking at your buddies and staring at the gauge. Use your buddy as a reference. Your buddy needs to be good...

    Zero vis lost line search

Typically in the passageways you would find something to tie off to. Problems I've encountered in finding tie off points was when travelling through cargo holds, rope storage rooms etc. One of the important rules when lost (at least in caves) is to find a tie off immediately before you start...

    Zero vis lost line search

Seeing that one of the top factors of overhead trained divers dying in an overhead environment is not laying a guideline all the way to OW, I don't see that as an option for me at all. Unless its some kind of direct swim through in a very small wreck. I also have not experienced any difficulty...

    Zero vis lost line search

I'm cave trained and was wondering what the protocol is for wreck divers. For caves, we are taught a few searches but the go to is the shotgun aka bicycle spoke search pattern. It involves doing a primary tie off with the safety spool then a secondary tie off as a direction reference then...

What is the future of GUE?

Being slow to adopt and not trying to cash in on every fad that comes along is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact it was what drew me to GUE. Thinking of agencies who try to market tech or rebreather courses to divers who have problems remembering how to setup their single tank OW equipment...

How to swap light & reel between hands

Thanks all. I experimented with this while diving the last week and think I found my favourite way. Right middle finger through reel, right thumb through the can light thumb hole.

How to swap light & reel between hands

Hello, would like to hear what is your most efficient method to use when you need to move your can light and primary reel from your left hand to your right, when you need to free up your left hand. I cup the reel with my right palm and slot my thumb into the reel handle, and index finger into...

Difference in weighting between Alu & Steel doubles

Hello, How much weight can I typically remove when moving from aluminum 11L doubles to 12.2L steel doubles? I use around 14lbs with the alu doubles in a drysuit with FE Arctic undergarments. Unfortunately where I'm going the logistics won't allow me to do a weight check before the dive. Thanks.

    Source for SPG spools?

Different manufacturers use different designs of spools and I am looking for an online source that sells most if not all of the commonly used spool designs. Must be able to ship internationally. Where do you usually buy from? Also the o-rings used in these spools look similar but I suspect...

    Flying with a DPV

I'm considering getting a Suex Xjoy 7. However, most of my diving is done overseas, and I need to fly to get there. Just wondering if this is a feasible thing to do on a regular basis? The Xjoy7 is 19kg, with a sealed lead acid battery. Most airlines allow you to check in 2 pieces of 25kg...

    Backup light recommendations

I'm a newbie cave diver so take this for what its worth. I had the 1k shorties for backup (uses 3 AA). The brightness was not an issue but the burn time was. I think these are rated for only 1.5 hours. Thats good enough for a C1 dive but probably not for a C2 dive. The other thing was during...
