    Diver struck by anti-shark weapon

Wow! If that was a bang stick that must have blown the he'll out of his leg! If that's truly the case then I can see why a USCG helicopter was called in. Really hope this individual made it through this ordeal with only an interesting story to tell and no long term ill effects.

    Diver struck by anti-shark weapon

Not sure if this is the correct place for this post, and it's about a month old. I did search this section and didn't find this particular incident mentioned... But was curious if anyone has more info on this story? In particular what could the anti-shark weapon be that they are referring...

Would you dive with this op?

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me" However you seem to think it's more like "Fool me once, shame on me." The OP never got to the twice part... Now he knows though. And thanks to him so do we in regards to this particular dive op. Except as far as we know he...

Would you dive with this op?

Except apparently they also promised a shallow dive site.

Would you dive with this op?

And the shallow diver would be upset because he was not getting what he payed for. So who is at fault here? Obviously the dive op for not setting the proper expectations for both parties. If a dive op sets expectations properly, then hopefully the newbie will be able to make an informed...

Would you dive with this op?

That argument could easily go the other way as well. Why should the safety of the newer diver be jeopardized by what the more experienced group wants? Shouldn't the dive site chosen be based on the ability level of the least experienced diver? If someone on a mixed ability level boat wants a...

So... finally got to try sidemount from a boat!

I finally got a chance to try sidemount from a boat while on vacation in Cancun, and I'll admit it wasn't one of my finer moments. Getting the gear setup on the boat wasn't a problem like I thought it might be, but getting the tanks back in the tank holders was a PITA. Seems my tank cam...

Training then. This is what was state of the art advice in 1968

Wait...... I thought everything was a nickel back then? At least that was what my grandfather always claimed. Was this a gold leafed book?

Cancun dive shops with DIN valved tanks?

Will be in Cancun for a family vacation and want to get some OW diving in. Are DIN valved tanks common or will I need to bring my yoke adapters? How about left hand valved tanks, or am I now getting to greedy? :) Thanks.

'Open Water' only sidemount BCDs: Your opinions?

Just because it enables new environments doesn't mean it forces its wearer into those environments. But otherwise I agree that training can be beneficial and in regards to cavern environments should be considered mandatory by most sane thinking individuals. Yeah "cave specific" was probably a...

'Open Water' only sidemount BCDs: Your opinions?

But if I buy one of the cave model BCDs instead then it's OK? I know that is not what you intended to convey, but in the context of this thread that is how it comes across. We aren't discussing the merits of training, we are talking about the location of a LPI inflator house. I'm still...

    Women and sidemount BCs.

I'll actually stop in at Cave Adventurers in June on my way down to PCB, but I'm sure I'll have it figured out by then. Considering I didn't purchase the Nomad LT from them, I wouldn't feel right calling, even though I'm sure Edd probably wouldn't mind, considering he helped me out with my...

Sidemount Harness Webbing - Anyone tried lightweight/crotch-strap material?

What if you just double up the soft webbing in the areas where you need D-rings? I know on a continuous harness that may not be possible, so maybe just sew a small length of additional webbing material in the areas you need doubled up?

    Women and sidemount BCs.

Steve, are you referring to the one about fitting a transpac? yUGdSCcEWuU It's not specific to sidemount, but is actually a good general harness fitment video. It would have saved me a few re-adjustments had I seen that one to begin with! Thanks!

    Women and sidemount BCs.

So, I finally received the Nomad LT Bluewater I had ordered for my wife. As soon as I got it home I went about getting it adjusted where I thought things should be for her based solely on my limited experience with my SMS 50. Of course as soon as I had her try it on I realized I had failed...

New Diver -- Lessons Learned -- Nassau

Some of my best lessons have come from the screw ups that haven't killed me. Sounds like you learned some of the most important ones early and now understand the "why" part. I'll add that you should think about drawing 3 - 7 breaths on your regulator while watching your pressure gauge just...

The best brand names on scuba diving equipment

This thread is like a time capsule. If every year or two it keeps getting revived like it has, we'll be able to see which companies have come and gone since the beginning of 2010 when it was created. If twenty years from now it gets revived again, does it get moved back to the vintage section...
