    Solo quandary

CRARACER: In our little dive community here in SE Alaska we use the following non-approved standards for Solo diving; trained through Rescue, redundant gear (doubles or large enough pony), conditions and depths we are comfortable with, and lack of buddy for the dive. Most of us prefer to...

    30/30 question

I currently have a couple of DUI suits a FLX5050 and a TLS350. Love them both. I have often wondered how the 3030 is to dive. The one thing I like with a wetsuit in warm water is that I don't have to worry about a feet first ascent. What kind of freedom does the 3030 allow? Can you be head...

    In the beginning

Thanks for answering my question. I figured they had to be for something. Nice link too, there is a wealth of information at the FF site.

    In the beginning

I borrowed a pair of Extra FF from our local dive shop and did a nice easy night dive with them. I had the whiskers turned to about parallel to start the dive. I did about 10 minutes or so then turned them out so they followed the line of the fin. I found they had more power with the...

Warm water fins for frog kicking?

This is an old thread now but I will answer it anyhow especially since I know you. I have a pair of Scubapro XL jets that I only use in the pool or when on vacation. My rockboots won't fit in to the XL Jets. My wife has the Larges and they work fine for her with Turbo soles. The Jets...

lightweight alternative to Jets (for travel) ...

Someone already mentioned the Deep Outdoors SixGill and I would second it for travel and also as a nice all around fin. They frog kick well have great control and are light weight at about 2lbs. I first tried these on vacation and my wife and I each bought a pair. DrDuktayp

Need fins that can move loads with currents

We have lots of tidal exchange here in SE Alaska and some rippin current if you can't make the slack tide. There are several things to remember when diving dry in the winter. I have 3 pairs of rock boots for my drysuit. size 10 for warm waters 50 degrees or more, size 11 for water cooler...

Which computer for technical diving do you prefer?

There is a video on youtube of the Liquidvision X1. The numbers are nice and big and I like how it signals for deco stops. Although, a friend of mine has the Shearwater Pursuit which I could see clearly at depth the other night. I like that the Liquidvision runs V-Planner live. The...

    Why DIN Valves??

I like the way the DIN regulators look hooked up - nice and clean. I have yoke adapters for when I travel. There is a big allen on the DIN that you have to keep an eye on as if you twist the regulator when you loosen it. DrDuktayp

Octo on a necklace ... with a twist

A practice/training run trying out the configuration would do wonders. A local divemaster had never used an Air II before and tried it out in the pool during a class. He handed the Air II to his buddy. Luckily this was during a pool session. I can't remember why he had the rental BCD as he...

    Trimix computer

Heh! You gotta love that hat! I was looking into the X1. I wish they handled their battery or warranty differently. They give a one year warranty and the battery is not replaceable. If the battery fails after the first year you have to purchase a new computer. Even if they said there...

    Dive Rite

One thing that no one has brought up. The Transpac will go through security easier at the airports. We travel with our gear and carry on our BC's, computers, and regulators. The BP doesn't X-Ray so the TSA have to open up our carry on luggage. Then of course we have to put it all back...

    SMB on a Hog rig

If you are doubled up you can also add a D-ring to the bottom of your tank either left or right. This is nice if you have more than one reel. I have some cave trained friends that do it this way. DiveRite has a new kit that has the D-ring, D ring holder, and clamp that is pretty slick.

    STA vs. STAless bp/w

Not all STA's are Stainless, DiveRite made lots of ABS Plastic ones. Trantor: I just don't let the boat people build my kit. I shoo them away. :) OneBrightGator: I do something similar, I put hard weight on the upper tank strap on my STA. I put two 4's so I can use the same weight...

    Converting HID to LED

Ag: When I saw on the DiveRite site that the HID flashlight was dropped and there was a new LED flashlight I had hoped there would be an update or parts available to switch the HID flashlight to LED using as many of the parts of the HID as possible. Case, battery holder, most of the head etc...

    Softwear Undergarments

My wife and I have had our 'Softwear' for 4 years now. In fact, it is time to purchase new ones. We also have DUI Thinsulate and Bare 'Skins'. We both still prefer diving the Softwear as it offers the greatest comfort and flexibility. DrDuktayp

    Converting HID to LED

I have the MR11 Slimline HID and a Travel HID that I am wondering about converting to the new LED system. Can either or both of these be converted? The extra time for the travel HID would be especially nice. We also use the travel HID's as backup on nite dives here in SE Alaska. DrDuktayp

    Puerto Rico Suggestions Please

Asami: We were in PR last week! The weather was wonderful! We had scheduled a day of diving with Taino but it was cancelled do to rough seas. The diving was fine in Aguadilla. We got directions and fills from Puerto Rico Technical Dive Center. The owners spoke English and their shop and...

Bradsab: I can hardly wait for your trip report and how the light did in Bonaire. Your light makes me want to try something similar. DrDuktayp

    lighthead finished - need cannister

Mud diver: Beautiful torch head! Do you have a photo log on the web of it being created? I have just started making my own cannister light. Since it is my first one, I am using a maglite with an MR-16 halogen lamp and overpowering it with a 16.8 volt cannister. I am awaiting most of the...
