i have been to both wakatobi and raja ampat. they are both spectacular places to dive with many critters, but different. wakatobi is pretty much mostly all wall drift-diving. raja ampat has some different stuff, not many walls, but still mostly drift-diving. i would go back to both of them...

the actual wakatobi resort is very cool.

normally back-scatter means there is lots of stuff in the water. i have shot many thousands of UW pics. the galapagos was very bad this year. too much stuff in the water.

check your settings. what are are they?

here it looks like a lake. puget sound. except the water is cold. need a drysuit.

it depends what time of year you go. we were in RA in july and stayed at the Sorido Bay resort on Kri island. very cushy and great diving. pic from our room.

this is a crude dive map i got of the dampier straight area. it came from Sorido Bay resort on Kri island which is about 20 min across the straight from Paupa Explorer. some fantastic dive sites there.

i run an XZ-1 camera. the predessor to the XZ-2. it is a great small full manual camera with a big sensor. takes some nice pics. the most common olympus camera i see on dive trips is the TG-4. seen great pics from it as well. example XZ-1 pic. just using the internal flash.

Wakatobi is very nice IMO. far better than HI and Fiji. we were also in RA in July (Kri Island).

RA is very cool. excellent diving. have dived Bali, Sulawesi, and RA (west paupa) in indonesia, SE Sulawesi is faboulous as well. that would be Wakatobi.

i would hit RA.frankly.

i shoot with only the internal flash on my camera. the internal flash is good for 3-4 ft.

3mm will be fine. only time i ever wore anything thicker was in galapagos.

the place is on the equator dude. depending on time of month (tides) can be strong. i estimate 3 kt to 5 kt current.. not bad, just ride the drift.

we were recently in RA. sure there is some current. but it is manageable. we have dove some places with really wicked currents. as long as you ride the current, you will be fine. bring a reef hook.

we did bunaken as well last trip, but not lembeh. we will be back to check to check lembeh out. actually bunaken is great wall drift diving. just lots of people there. i need to get a macro lense for my camera for lembeh. it is a small wide-angle rig. 28 mm to 113 mm in 35 mm units.

for my 60th bday, we went to the galapagos. however, we went to raja ampat soon after that. we have been to wakatobi a couple times before. it is fabulous, but spendy. both raja ampat and wakatobi are fantastic places. wakatobi mostly all wall drift dives. RA was all drift dives, but not...

i was just in sorong. the new airport is really pretty nice. no beer there though.
