Unexpected big wave while shore diving

So here's the scenario. I am shore diving and coming back into shore. The waves are quite small. I have taken off my fins and am walking in sideways. The oncoming wave is way bigger than the previous ones and I think I'm likely to get knocked down. Unfortunately running to shore is not an...

    Mares Sizing

Can I depend on the measurements given in a Mares chart or should I order a size with bigger measurements than my own? I'm specifically looking at wetsuits.

    Mares Graph Flex Wetsuit

There's a lot of hype out there by the new Mares suit made with graphene, apparently the first scuba suit made from the Nobel prize winning material. There are surfing suits made from the material, but not many reviews of them and no reviews of the Mares suit. Has anyone worn this suit toted to...

    Two Monterey CA Critters

Two things I've never seen before. Both were spotted around 10 feet near the shore-side of the pipe at San Carlos that points to the metridium fields. The first is a weight-belt sized creature. It had bright yellow margins both sides. Buddy thought it was dead, but I thought it was burrowing...

    Face stuff and masks

Okay Ladies, I know I can't be the only one with this problem, but I can't find any threads addressing one of things I hate most about diving: the infamous, annoying leaking mask. Yeah, sometimes it's hair but more often it's sunscreen or moisturizer causing the problem. I know people say put...

    Dead SmartCom

My SmartCom has died for real...even Scubapro won't revive it. Are the parts useful to anyone? If not, I'm going to bust out the compass and pretend it's not all I have left of a fairly expensive toy.

    Critter eggs (embarrassingly blurry)

I have seen many kinds of eggs at Breakwater (Monterey, CA) but I have never seen anything like these. I apologize profusely for the blurriness, but I really hope someone can tell me what critter laid them. They were seen in 35 feet of water out in the sand but close to the wall this month (July).

Seen in shallow water at Santa Cruz Island (one of the Northern Channel Islands), CA. Day dive. Shallow, maybe 30 feet deep. Looks like it has antennae and was moving slowly. About 5 inches.

Coordinates Needed for 2 Santa Cruz Island spots

Does anybody know the coordinates of Fairbanks Landing and Dave's Cove at Santa Cruz? I was diving off the Conception and doing REEF surveys. I figured we were at well known spots, but these aren't in REEF's data bank nor does Google bring up anything. If someone could get me coordinates, it...

    Giant Keyhole Limpet

My buddy and I saw this unusual creature at Santa Cruz Island, one of the northern Channel Islands off the coast of Santa Barbara, CA, which we believe is a giant keyhole limpet. I can't find anything on the internet that would help me understand what we caught on film since keyhole limpets...

    Plastic Backplate

In hopes of going on a tropical dive vacation soon, I bought a plastic backplate to reduce my weight both in the suitcase and in the water. Supposedly a lot of people use plastic backplates but a search at this site brought up no threads. So my question is, if there is anybody out there who uses...

Okay, marine experts, please help me identify this creature. It was in very shallow water (less than 10 feet) in the cove at Pt Lobos State Natural Reserve in Carmel, CA. Picture was taken 4/9/16. I hope it's clear enough for someone to be able to tell what it is.

    Weight Belt Buckle Question

:confused:Laugh if you must but I gotta ask. Do weight buckles go bad? I have a name brand steel weight buckle that doesn't clamp down well. Barely tug on the excess weight belt that's hanging out of the buckle and it will pop right open. It looks fine and I didn't change the way I loop the belt...
