I'm not sure where you have got that from but in my experience (10 trips to Malta/Gozo) it's nonsense. The best dive shop on Gozo is owned by a Maltese chap and he runs a very tight ship and takes great care with rental and customer kit.

There are lots of good dive centres around the island. Probably best to choose one close to where you are staying. Much more marine life than in the med. On my last trip I got to see angel sharks and devil fish. Viz mostly good but a few currents to make dives a bit more interesting.

I struggle doing this with a BPW. Fine with a BC as I grab the tank band with one hand and the tank neck with the other. with a BP in the way it's not as easy. Can i ask how you do it?

I don't think it's really an accepted practice but it's something I do all the time with a singles setup. I find it much easier to get into my kit and end up with all the straps and hoses in the right place.

I've taken them down to 20m without equalising and they've been OK. There's definitely a squeeze but it's manageable. Generally though I allow my cuffs to sit on top of my glove liners and that works great.
