It's been a few years since I was last there, but Safari Diving in Puerto del Carmen were very good and right on the beach.
In Playa Blanca, Rubicon diving were excellent.
The museum was interesting, but I don't think I'd bother again.
The one skill I wished I'd practiced more was handing off a bailout . We did it a few times during the course (BSAC btw).
Dive lots, make sure youre comfortable in the water and with all your gear. I really enjoyed MOD2.
I'd done AN/DP/Helitrox before I switched to CCR. I found it very useful to have covered a lot of the theory prior to MOD1. It was also good to have done quite a few deco dives prior to the switch, just to make sure I was comfortable hanging around at 6m for 30 minutes or so. My comfort level in...
Definitely dry suit. Some do dive wet, but they're the exception rather than the rule.
As Aura said, a BSAC club is a great way to further your training and get more opportunities to go diving. Try a few near you. There's a lot of variation in how clubs do things. I tried 4 clubs before joining...
I know Puffin quite well and have had mixed experiences with them.
I did consider going to them but it was a 5 hour round trip, which I'd have to do twice and I was content to explore the local area, even managed to take in a distillery tour on Skye.
Drove 10 hours to Scotland for the weekend. Gearing up for the first dive, my drysuit zip, which has been gradually getting worse over the last couple of months, finally gave up the ghost catastrophically!
While watching the rest of my friends head off on the rhib to dive what they later...
52. Certified in 1996 on holiday in Thailand. Holiday diver for a few years, did my AOW in 98 in the UK and only dived a handful of times for the next 10 years or so.
A couple of friends got into diving and we started diving in the UK on a regular basis.
I joined a club 5 years ago after my...
Stumbled across a thread whilst browsing at old posts on CCRx about this very topic.
Theres a few suggestions like vacuum cleaner filter bags and even Bounty paper towels, but the qualitative lab filter paper looked an interesting possibility.
The AP ones for my inspo are cheap enough and...
52 and diving on and off for 25 years. I've done more diving since I turned 50 than in the previous 22 years. MOD1 a month after my 50th birthday and MOD2 a couple of weeks ago. I dive 3 or 4 weekends a month all year round in the UK.
BSAC Sport Diver.
I crossed over as a sport diver having done PADI rescue. When I came to do Dive Leader I found there were significant bits missing which I had to go back and cover.
Also joining a club was a great way to give me the opportunity to do a lot more diving in places other than...
Two for me.
First, accidentally swimming into a wreck in dark, low viz conditions.
Second and scarier, my wife finding how much I've actually spent on gear!
On the Inspiration the temp stick shows as a bar across the top of the handset. When it works properly, the bar starts at the left as an empty box and over time fills the box as the scrubber warms up. Once the box is full the bar starts to empty in the same way as a fuel gauge. Once the box has...
If you're in NW UK, the west coast of Scotland isn't too far away. I'm in Soith Yorkshire and travel up about once a month, as well as regular Yorkshire coast stuff in summer.
There's some great stuff in the Clyde and Oban isn't that much further. There's also the lake district. Wastwater...
Malin next year hopefully, once I've got MOD2 done.
I've been to Scotland at least once a month in the last year and have 3 more trips booked this year, including Scapa in a few weeks time. Love the place but my fuel bill is nuts!
UK. Loads of variety, loads of wrecks at various depths, plenty of boats to dive from and I already live here.
More specifically the west coast of Scotland. Even though I'm currently in the middle of England, probably 70% of my diving is in Scotland. The current plan is to retire there in a...
Not all clubs are created equal. I went along to meet 4 local clubs before joining the one I'm in now (actually 3, one never got back to me). The one I joined is based 100 miles away from where I live, but they are very active.
Talk to a few and see if they fit what you're after.
I do this. Much easier to fill the scrubber and easier to transport. I've got two in the car for a weekend away camping and diving in Scotland as I type this. There wouldnt be space in the car for the big 20kg tub.
You've got various dive sites in the lakes. I've dived in Wastwater and Crummock. There's Capernwray if you want an inland site. Blackpool is 2.5 hours from Anglesey or 3.5 hours from the west coast of Scotland.
The only club I know near Blackpool is JBOD based in Preston. I'm not a member...
