hi hoomi, i learned to swim from an early age and used to spend my summers swimming and goofing off in a pool. one of the things i used to do when goofing off in the pool was to turn somersaults underwater. early on, i found that water kept flooding my nose when i did the somersaults. later...
diving related: if you confuse the inflate button with the inflate purge on the bcd, you might soon find yourself shooting up to the surface like a balloon. luckily, this was at the beginning of one of my ow checkout dives and i was still around 15' when this happened so i was ok.
non-diving...
i travel with a large red duffel bag, which i received as a "gift" with a purchase of some eau de toilet some years back. to further help personalize my bag, i use an orange handle strap (courtesy of an airline on which i frequently flew in my college days). alternatively, i travel with...
i think i saw a similar show or the same one. soon thereafter, i saw another show that came up with a contradictory conclusion. then i read a book that suggested the attacks were done by several different sharks. i followed this up with another book saying that the attacks were done by just a...
i'm not an expert in any way, but i thought that it's a bad idea to have farm-raised fish near open oceans? doesn't it lead to several problems like diseases spreading from the farm-raised fish into the open ocean fish stock? isn't that one of the lessons learned from the farm-raised salmon...
imagine you go to a lake to get away from the stresses of daily life. you're just chilling out, enjoying your vacation. there you are you're not worrying about taking care of the family, putting food on your table, nor even about your job. when suddenly there's a commotion in the water, your...
wow...cool pics! i remember the first time i saw black sea bass in the ocean--it was 11 years ago--attached to the hook on the end of my fishing line. hopefully, i'll be able to see them underwater someday, sans fishing line. :)
for those of you who enjoy diving in warm waters to look at the reef fish, i've got some bad news to impart. the govt has finally documented the decline of reef fish off hawaii; it looks like about 86% of the reef fish stocks are at below desirable levels, with about 75% of the total reef fish...

personally, i travel with duffel bags/gym bags--they're lightweight but well-constructed and can hold quite a bit of stuff. if you don't have any physical issues keeping you from traveling with them, i'd recommend using a duffel bag or a gym bag.
welcome hoomi...i'm a newb to diving, too...i just got certified earlier this year--but i've been intrigued w/diving since i was a kid...anyway, i'm sure you and your wife will enjoy diving! :)
just curious, is this still possible w/modern tanks? i mean, isn't the pressure of the air being released from the tank pretty high? i thought that the purpose of the first stage and the reg was to reduce the pressure of the air to a level where the diver could breathe it w/o damaging his...
the guy could always argue pro se (represent himself); there have been dumber cases, like the dc judge who tried to recover millions of dollars for lost pants (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/13/us/13pants.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss)
spt29970, glad to hear you're ok...hopefully the fires will be put out soon...
on a side note, no one thought to grab his c-cards! how will you dive w/o them?
