I personally recommend Ocean Frontiers, great DMs, great service, great sites. They are a very well run dive op.

Well, the box jelly and irukundji are the real famous ones. Both are found in Australian waters, both appear seasonally. The irukundji would be small enough to swim in your wetsuit. Strangly enough, I heard they can't sting through nylon.

Cold+less than perfect vis does not = bad when you're diving in the ocean, SoCal is cold, sometimes a bit murky, but definately beautiful. I am however superstitious against fresh water diving, it just doesn't taste right.

I'm considering a trip to Anacapa this August, but I've heard that it's considerably colder there than most places in SoCal. I've dove Catalina with a 6-7mm suit and hood, but no hooded vest. Does Anacapa diving require more?

Well, was it typically short and sporadic, or did it rain regularly?

There are a few abandoned houses and crumbing walls here and there, but life seemed pretty much back to normal when I visited. When I dove the East End this April, the seas were moderate for three out of the four days, and up picked up to the getting bounce around a bit/slight discomfort level...

Agreed, the East End of Grand Cayman is truly awsome. I dove there with Ocean Frontiers and had a great time. Truthfully, that's been my only Caribbean experience to date (California resident= Hawaii and South Pacific diver), so I have nothing to compare it to, but the East End of Grand Cayman...
