    White's fusion?

Well, he mentioned the fact that "normal" trilams are easier to doff and don for some people, but as mentioned here, that is quite individual, as some report issues and others have no problems. There is the issue about the design being "Rockboot only", where Rockboots are not compliant, and I...

    White's fusion?

I REALLY hope I don't ruffle any feathers here, since I respect and like everyone here. I was trained by the instructor that has issues with the Fusion, (a guy in my class had one), and when objectively laid out, (which they were), I agree with the issues. (And I'm hoping I don't offend you...

Can someone run down which tanks work best for DIR style stage bottles?

Bear in mind that I am not a "DIR Rep" or what-have-you, but this is my understanding. Luxfer AL80s for stages, (and sometimes deco) and AL40s for deco. Catalinas can be used, but the Catalina 80s are slightly heavier in the water, (only slightly), but it makes them ride terribly. I think...

    New Buddy Into DIR

Glad to hear you had some success "reaching out" as it were. I always like to hear the success stories. I don't proselytize or preach, but I just let the skills and performance in the water speak for itself. I usually always have people or students asking me questions, and I don't have to...

Scuba Pro - Black Tech and X-Tek Gear

Scubapro makes awesome $400 regs. The problem is they charge $700 for them. I use Scubapro nowadays, but only because I work in a shop that sells Scubapro and get sick discounts, and am also a tech, so I get parts and do all my own servicing. If I had to pay retail and pay for servcing...

    Poseidon regulators

I'm selling my whole stable of Poseidon regulators. All are in excellent to like-new shape, and breathe fantastic. I'm only selling because I have decided to go the "DIR" route, (let's not have that battle here), and Poseidons are not authorized for use. They are amazing breathers and have...

A LOT faster of late. Well done!

    DIR under Technical Diving Specialties

Well later today I am off to Fiji with a group and from gear configuration, mindset and diving style, I think I'll be the only "DIR" diver on the trip, so we'll see how that goes.

    Loading slow?

I am noticing the site is now loading slow as molasses whenever I refresh, click a thread, click a subforum, post or what-have-you. Is there something going on? It's WAAAY laggier and slower than it used to be.

    DIR under Technical Diving Specialties

"DIR" ain't just for pushing EOL at Wakulla. As for the first post, you wouldn't believe the number of people of "high-rating" in the industry that call my BP/W a "tech rig", regardless of the diving I'm doing or the length of the hose. Adding the 7' hose only seems to make it worse. We...

    DIR for Tech diving?

As a newly-minted OW Instructor, (passed my NAUI ITC today), I will say this... (and I've had more than a few "celebratory drinks", so please forgive me if I overstep my bounds...) You will NEVER win over the "Old Guard" types who own/run the shops, dive outfits, manufacturers and call the...

Why we dive with a Pony

I don't think they're that heavy, and since I dive dry nearly all of the time, I appreciate the added ballast, (I use steel twins). Used twinsets aren't all that bad, and even new, a set of AL80s isn't a bank-breaker. I don't think it's too much. First learn a proper valve-drill, then...

Why we dive with a Pony

I was a fairly new diver and was sorta "pony-curious", so I was in my LDS and asked my buddy working there, "So what's the deal with pony bottles?" And I got into all the stuff on redundancy, etc. He just looked at me and said, "if you want two tanks, why not just dive doubles?" I didn't have...

Class Report: GUE Primer 5/14 - 5/15 with Bob Sherwood

A picture here. It's a nylon webbing piece that is around where the elbow joins the corrugated hose. I would assume it's for protecting the joint as well as assisting with corrugated hose routing. DirDirect :: ALL HALCYON KIT :: Halcyon Wings and Wing Systems :: Parts, Accessories & Weight...

School me on tanks and canister lights

Yeah, it's something (allegedly) to do with the hot-dip galvanizing process. It's also happening more frequently on the exemption-tanks, and less so on the 3AA (LP) tanks. As long as your hydro facility follows the proper procedures, they should be fine.

Class Report: GUE Primer 5/14 - 5/15 with Bob Sherwood

I'm curious as to what. My only exposure to GUE in a classroom/official capacity (so far) has been with Bob and I'm just wondering what the differences/idiosyncrasies are. Everything he showed us was pretty well "by the book", with the possible exception being routing the wing LP inflator...

    Intro to Tek; Which agency?

Also there's more to GUE training that "just caves". I am planning on following their "Tech" curriculum, since caves, (at least right now), hold little interest for me, but (deep) wrecks, now you're talking!

What's wrong with that? Worthington makes a good cylinder from both everything I hear and have personally experienced.
