I read all these with great intrest. I was a service tech for 20+ years and yes I did forget to tighten down a few hoses in that time... now who out there hasn't made a mistake at work that cost someone $$$$$... noone on this board I bet. As was said hook your gear to a tank and leave it over...

    Reg Service

No offence taken. My point is take care of your gear and it will(should) take care of you. If its a 199.00 Aqualung, that topo' the line Atomic or that e-bay find so be it. Ease of breathing does cost more no matter how you slice it. As an x-shop, repair person/sales/mgr. my time is worth...

    Reg Service

DA is right on the money about the way air pressure and spring pressure both balanced and un balanced work. The service time on your regs is up to you but like I told my customers "Your reg is life support equipment for a hostile enviroment you are not intended to be in other wise you would...

Yet another "Try your gear after service" thread

You dont even need to "dive" it to check it. All you need to do is hook everything up to a tank, turn on the air, inflate the bc and let everything set over night the tank psi shouldn't change unless you have a leak or a "huge" temperture change and you bc should still be inflated. But a pool...

Scariest Air Fill of my Life!

I got my start as tank boy when we came back to the shop after my AOW check out dives, the weekend after my OW check out dives, I didn't have a clue. The store Inst's were unloading the gear as we students were hanging around and the owner asked "does anyone want to learn to fill tanks" and I...

Scariest Air Fill of my Life!

Well I guess not everyone knows everything.... Unlike some people on this fourm. And yes more training from the shop is in order. Some shops put the newbie on the fill station, thats how 20 years and 4 shops later I became a Store Manager and Staff Instructor. Boy I miss being tank boy.

    Drift diving, what you've learned?

Wait till your on that next Drift and you come to a dead stop in the water then notice that your group are sinking down the reef even though they are "treading water". That is a downwelling current and we had this happen to a group while in Coz. The DM had never seen one happen there before...

    Certification accidents

Walter is right, the biggest 2 letter word..... If I have and have used a spare air, came up from 110 ft and it worked ok for me (I was testing it). Wouldn't want to count on it in a high breathing panic but then again a diver should never be using that P-word anyway. And yes people do have...

Buddies - the good, the bad and the evil

For 20 years I was a insta buddy (working DM/Inst.) I had no problem stopping a buddy that I had been diving with and telling them to slow down/stay with me and most of them were grateful for the education I would impart to them while we were diving together. Some were just plain A##'s about it...

Getting Factory Certified to service Scubapro?

Unless something has changed in the last couple years you have to be working at a scubapro shop to be able to take the factory class. If it is not a factory class your warrenty is voided if you are not factory certified.

What would you do if ...

I replace about 150 neck/wrist seals a year. These are on whitewater kayaking drytops but its the same thing, same seals. I see a few with these dimples and they are really no big deal from a tech stand point just more of a cosmetic thing the heat gun trick does work just dont get it to hot...

    Bitten by a moray eel?

I used to feed The big Greens twice a week down in St. Croix along with the spotteds that would show up never had any problems with them, I fed alot of the "wild/random" ones that I would run across in the Bahmas, never a problem. I did see a couple of people get bit while reaching for bugs...

New Scubapro G250V's, why does the purge button lock down?

What is old is now new. My BA109 reg did the same thing with a little removeable plastic thingy or you could buy a depresser to do it.

    PADI Rocks!!!

So then what is diving ? If not breating air underwater ? I am confused. I thought that some part of SCUBA related to breathing underwater. You know in 20 years of diving I never got tired of hearing this, My way is the right way and you suck cuz you didn't learn what i think you should...

    PADI Rocks!!!

PADI does not teach diving. Instructors teach diving useing PADI training materials. Some Instructors are horriable teachers and put students in danger. Some Instructors teach as bad as I spell and type. Some Instructors teach their divers to plan and conduct safe dives. Glad to hear you...
